Star Wars: The Phantom Menace – Looper Got It Wrong

Looper | August 17, 2025

First episode, worst movie? Not if we have anything to say about it. Looper.com may have put “The Phantom Menace” at the bottom of its ranking, but Looper’s video team says other mainline “Star Wars” movies deserve the dubious honor. Yes, even with Jar Jar.

Remember when looper was calling people who didn't like the acolyte bigots? And the OMG release a video showing a disney exec describing disney themselves being bigots?

Ep3 as the 3rd worst Star Wars film.
    This guy is actually insane.

I wonder how their Disney passes are doing seeing as all 3 Sequrl films are above The Prequels.
    That's actually crazy.

Midichlorians are right in line for Star Wars.
For those not paying attention to the film, like the guy in the video.
The Force is STILL the magical mysterious thing that penetrants everything.

If anything the OT hints at power in the Force is genetic.
"The Force is strong in my family, my father has it, I have, my sister has it too."
Almost like something is genetically being passed down from generation to generation, like DNA of some kind.

Mainly, many "lovely" people think the Midichlorians are The Force, thanks in large part to Plinkett, but they are 2 completely different things.

    So basically he hates everything…
Bro, even the Roger Roger Droids?.. What an odd thing to hate on.
I think this is the first time I've heard someone point to them as a "crime." The 3rd biggest, apparently.
    What a joke.

Damn, these gReAt people still spreading lies.
"This is what happens when nobody is allowed to tell George Lucas no."

Tell me you don't know what you're talking about, without telling me you don't know what you're talking about.

    News Flash:
George got what he wanted with the Original Trilogy too.
Marcia Lucas, everyones false prophet who "saved" Star Wars, wanted to keep the Luke scenes talking with his friends.
Director of Ep6 wanted Luke to turn to the dark side, wear his fathers helmet, and dub himself as Darth Vader.

George had to shut down everyone elses bad decisions, because at the end of the day, HE got what he wanted to happen.

For the Prequels, actors, set designers, and art designers all challenged George on many things, and some actors got to make their own choices with their character being dialogue or appearance.

You were a teen and didn't like Ep1, congrats, have a cookie, there were many more kids and teens that did like it.

I love Attack of the Clones idgaf what anyone says. I loved the prequels. They were such a huge impact on my childhood. Also Rouge One is absolutely amazing. This guy is everything wrong with Star Wars fan base

I disagree, the sequel trilogy is the three worst SW movies ever! It was hot garbage with no cohesion or good character development. A bigger Death Star, really? 🙄 some how Palpatine has returned, really? Lazy writing. The prequels were bad, but they at least tried and succeeded in telling an actual cohesive story. Solo was bad, but Rogue One is the second best SW movie ever. The one thing that I will say about ALL SW to unify us all is they ALL are visually stunning, fantastic action sequences and mostly all had BRILLIANT music from John Williams!

I completely disagree. Everything is clear and connected in Phantom Menace. Story, characters, duels. All. Attack of the Clones has good moments. Revenge of the Sith is the best prequel. And one of the best movies ever. And Rogue One is pretty good. Haven't seen it but it's pretty good. I completely disagree with him. Completely and utterly missed the point

I believe that the prequel trilogy was targeted at new audiences (primarily children), not the old fan base. I was 8 when the movie came out and I remember I could only focus on Anakin (being a kid of a similar age, I felt I was experiencing everything from his point of view) and the effects, which were amazing for the time (all of the political stuff went right over my head of course). This is the movie that made me fall in love with Star Wars.

Why does this just sound like someone who had to bash on the prequels for some kind of twisted pleasure? I won't deny there are issues. But I didn't see any green breast milk, space traveling Jedis, wasted Luke, half ass love story through the force, resurrected prior big bad as a desperate cry for attention and oh yeah a fake Skywalker. Does Disney have his family hostage some where?

It was a really good movie. Specially as a kid seen jar jar do a jedi jump in the beginning of the movie I turned to my dad and said that was a jedi jump!

Everyone hates the prequel trilogy because they’ve been told it was bad by others. Star Wars fans cannot think for themselves and just form hate mobs for no reason. That’s why everyone outside the Star Wars fan base can’t stand any of you.

This is the most one sided argument every this guy was born to hate phantom menace and it’s a bit sad people can’t just watch it for what it is and see all the amazing cinematic feats it accomplishes

I will take lightsaber fights from the original trilogy over newer ones any day of the week. Theyre more visceral when they arent cgi. You can hear them crackle, you can practically feel the heat coming off them. That being said, the darth maul fight was pretty badass
