SPIRITUAL HEALING FROM THE SAND CREEK MASSACRE OF 1864

92.9 The Torch | March 29, 2025

Chief Black Kettle and Chief Left Hand’s camp gathered under an American flag and a white flag of truce as Calvary approached at dawn. Despite these signs of peace, Col. Chivington led 700 U.S. soldiers in five battalions to slaughter 200 Cheyenne and Arapaho, mainly women and children.

Truth and reconciliation is necessary for our collective human healing. Sit with us while we watch a new 30-minute documentary called, “ONLY THE EARTH AND MOUNTAINS” by Elleni Sclavenitis, which was an official selection of the Tall Grass Film Festival and Pocahontas Reframed Film Festival.

Then join some of today’s relatives of the survivors of the Massacre: Cinnamon Kills First, Ariann Little Bird & Haden Standing Water, all participants in the annual Sand Creek Spiritual Healing Run, for restorative perspectives in a panel discussion moderated by Sheldon Spotted Elk. Sunday, November 29th at 11am (Mountain).

** The film was previewed during the live event, but has been edited out of this video. For viewing requests, please contact the filmmaker at info@sclavenitis.com. **
