I’m a bassist in a Thrash band, I’m also a white Hindu convert (ever met the “Hare Krishna’s”?) so I wear a distinct haircut, the baggy pyjama pants and T-shirts with some Hindu gods on instead of band shirts; Safe to say I REALLY stand out. But I did used to be “Alt” when I was teenager, cookie cutter style like you said, it gets real stale real quick, just be yourself and you’ll be even more unique than if you tried to be.

I think we should get a video on the nerdy side of death metal, like Bolt Thrower (without the cringe Jo Bench simping).

Did you know even THEY inspired OTHER Warhammer bands? Chainsword exist! Others too! It's crazy how quickly Games Workshop gobbled them (BT) up and shat them out. Capitalism at its most obscene, lol.

Reminder that much of these eboy and egirl aesthetics that misappropriate other subcultures (Kid dressed in goth/industrial but only listens to PinkPanthress rather than Diva Destruction or Chemlab) are today's equivalent of a kid wearing "I'm with Pedro" merch shirts twenty years ago, and archetypes depicted on Adam Sandler/Rob Schneider/Paulie Shore movies thirty years ago, or the character Eric Andre portrays in his show (Pizza Balllll!)

how to be alt: act like and look like you listen to punk and metal, listen to shitty rap music. gatekeep the music you are supposed to be listening to and complain about capitalism even though your entire costume exists due to it. dont allow people to use the label unless they 100% agree with your political views. smell like an armpit.follow trends.

I don’t think this is controversial but the fashion doesn’t matter nearly as much as everyone (the internet. Go outside) thinks. I don’t mean this to say go buy from shein. I’m saying if you can’t afford to get it properly, do without it. No one cares as long as you’re listening to the music, going to shows (and getting there early and staying late!), and are trying to make your scene a better place. A scene is automatically better if another person gets active in it.

Genuine question, cause Im a metal head, and I buy a ton of shirts, always from the bands, usually at shows, if not its from their official stores and nowhere else. but thats not second hand, even if I dont throw any of these out and I wear them till I litterally cant, is that fast fashion? What is it? Id buy second hand but finding that one specific album shirt in second hand stores let alone in good condition is just such a pain in the ass.

honestly i dont give a fuck about the term alt, down with the clown since 14, gg allin and black metal enthusiast since 15, primarily listened to goth music at 17-18, when i hit 19 i discovered folkpunk and, as i was homeless whenever i wasnt sleeping in dopeholes, found that street punk was a pretty fitting label for myself at that moment, now?? im an adult, and i still like every type of music i just listed off, and way more, i dont really have a single way i'd label myself, and definitely not under a nothingburger lameass label like "alternative"

I've made a promise to myself that I will only ever buy physical versions of crass music, I'll never buy any crass clothing. I have an embroidered crass patch I made on my jacket, and I'm working on a stencil to bleach paint onto a shirt. Might take a couple tries but were getting there.

The concept of an alt movement was basically an industry label to mix a lot of bullshit that has nothing to do within them rather than a real thing moved by people and mfs in tik tok and instagram be splashing "you are not alt if you aren't *x progressive thing"

I'm incredibly annoyed that posers have just slapped alt like a valid thing because most of these people want to belong to the subculutures but never EVER want to listen to the music and engage with the communities so they call themselves "alt" for using oversized clothes and conpensing it with "le politics", and if you ask which politics they respond with vague leftist/progressive ideas like if ALL the subcultures in the world have the same values or ideologies

I've never unsubscribed so fast in my life. Jesus christ what has happened to this channel? "alt is about being a good person, subscribing the 'right ethics' and doing 'our part' to make sure a subculture survives" has me dead lmfao

"It's about subscribing to the right ethics…"

(Checks description)…Two Instagram links, secondary channel, Spotify, discord, etc

"Before capitalism's greedy claws ruined such a pure scene…"

(Checks description) …merch shop, Patreon exclusive content

Yeah it's time to quit my job and cash in on collective stupidity like my man Coolea here

community post: "To put it simply there is a chance that this channel will no longer be my main focus in the near future"
and then bro keeps dropping banger after banger with three days delay.
nah but fr, i really appreciate the work and hope you are doing well.
being "out of ideas"is a understandable feeling i just hope you dont fall into the trap of setting unattainable standards for yourself that take the joy out of it.
also the links in the video description are cut off and are not clickable.
also also, pls drop the outro song <33

"college music" was always a better term, especially to describe bands that never went to college. Actually, I just remembered that the Bevis Frond played at my school.

I figured this out in the early 90s, jeans a t shirt and boots ( not docs) and the right attitude got me accepted in all the underground circles ( mostly because people that were really in them didn't look like the picture). They as I were interested in the music, lifestyle, art, literature , and drugs that it revolved around. If you couldn't hold a conversation deeper than the newest drop on MTV it didn't matter how you looked you were on the outside.

in middle school, my friend told me this chick was into me so I asked her to be my girlfriend and she was into like piercings and tattoos and she sent me to this website 'bmezine', and within minutes I was watching people get bad tattoo art and turn their stuff into banana splits. It was horriying and pointless, people can actually be that vapid. "wow cool, some tats" grow up lol
