Really, this has it backwards. Sloths are TOP tier. They manage to survive while doing basically nothing. Most of their life is a nap. No running around making burrows or building dams or chasing prey or spinning webs, they just literally hang out all day and still manage to make a living. In my book, that's called having it beat. And sure, their main predator can find them–but that's true of any creature that isn't an apex predator. But there's plenty more predators where they live than just eagles–why aren't any of those other ones their main predators? Can't find them or can't reach them, presumably. So their defences are working to whittle down the field to mostly just eagles; that seems pretty successful.
