Funny narration and i think the movie holds up. I know a lot of people get mad at the stereotypes especially Dong. But they are all stereotypes! Relax people. Quit being so uptight.

I watched this movie, it was FUCKIN WEIRD!!!!!!!!!!!! GENUINELY WHERE DID THE SEXPLOITATION OF THE CHINESE KID COME FROM. (I guess he enjoyed it but whatever)

My theory on this film is it is not what actually happened, it is adult Samantha telling the story of her birthday 20 years later so everything is exaggerated because she is still emotional about it and many of the details have faded from her memory (like the real name of the exchange student) so she just fills them in with whatever. Seen through this lens the film suddenly makes sense.

modern teens and gen Z will absolutely hate this film because they want to be offended for other people…i guarantee John Hughes did not write any of the dialogue or characters from a place of malice. he simply wrote what he found funny, and god damn if this isn't one of the funniest films of the 80s. back when being slightly offensive was totally fine as long as you were actually funny. long live the Donger!
