Genuine question – is it not a thing to write the ingredients of a dish in the menu in America? Where I live, under every dish there's a list of ingredients and often near the name of the dish there would be a symbol if its vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, etc… Is that not standard cuz i feel like it saves a lot of time?

As a vegetarian for the past 10 years – I would know the pitfalls. I'd ask about the stock, I'd ask about fish sauce in an otherwise veggie stir-fry dish, or anchovies in a salad dressing.
Sure it's nice when the servers know it off the top of their heads, and certainly nice when the menu already has corresponding icons for different dietary needs.
But honestly, same as with allergies or dislikes – it's on the customer to know what they should avoid.

You know what the magic solution is? When restaurants name their ingredients under the menu item, or putting seals next to the items, marking if they fall into certain categories

People should not complain if rissoto is made with chicken broth, it tastes good compared to veg stock. because fat equals flavor. and other stuff chicken broth has, unless its an allegy thing.

0:33 say it with me friends: "average person eats 3 spiders a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average person eats 0 spiders per year. Spiders Georg, who lives in cave & eats over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

Terry is actually wrong and I had to look it up to find the answer. Chicken stock is made from the proteins and gelatin from the bones. Same with beef stock. So broth and consommé are both considered allowed by vegetarians and during Lent. I’m not vegetarian. I enjoy chicken and beef too much. I love veggies too, especially if they’re fresh from the garden or veggies that have been put up from the garden for later. We ate peas and butter beans a lot growing up.

Someone from EU here wondering how you don’t have symbols in menu 🙈 We have them everywhere even in the supermarkets price tags and wines and clothing 😅

Pickles needs a hug for that one. Chicken broth is a flavoring used in soup. It contains very little chicken…a miniscule amount, but a ton of salt. Chicken stock comes from boiling the chicken and the bones meaning it has a lot of meat product in it.

That spider thing might be true. I found the hugest spider the other day. It was the size of a baby’s hand. In my bed, I don’t live with spiders are supposed to get that big
