You're assuming Bill Gates wants people to live and thrive. Dude wants to depopulate the world

I want to start out by saying that I have regularly enjoyed your content and hear your concerns about gene editing, but I do believe your concerns arrived at the right point for the wrong reason. It is reasonable that you would be wary of "what if it gets the snip wrong", but it feels like your bigger concern is the ick you say you feel from man "stepping into the shoes of God" and, if I might take a guess at your thoughts, claiming that it comes close to defying an "objective morality defined by God". While I am not a believer myself, I do believe that science and religion are not mutually exclusive to an extent. Humans have long "stepped into the shoes of God" by nature of being human; radically and permanently shaping the world around us to fit our desires. I disagree that morality comes from an objective source because morality by its definition is subjective. To claim morality comes from God is to discredit the morality of billions of living people around the world, and quite frankly a bit discriminatory towards non-Christians. It also feels a bit disingenuous to imply there is a secret billionaire plot to force gene editing onto an unsuspecting population. There are plenty of other reasons to dislike them, you don't need to suggest new conspiracies. Finally, to claim that "science is their religion" about someone is illogical. Science is not a religion, by definition. It is a methodology of testing hypotheses to determine how the world works, or doesn't, around us.
Regardless, I would like to propose a more substantial argument in support of your position because I do agree with your conclusion of "we really should think this through a bit more". This sort of gene editing calls into question the morality of choosing phenotypes in a world where we already systemically discriminate against certain ones. Additionally, there is already the ethical argument of chromosomal disorders being discussed with early pregnancy testing such as NIPT and whether a mother should be allowed to terminate the pregnancy because of it. I would also argue that any future advances in this will likely only further the divide between the rich and everyone else because I find it hard to believe this will ever be an affordable procedure. In a perfect world, nobody would have to suffer from diseases/cancer through gene editing and conditions caused genomic disorders, but allowing the editing potentially walks a very thin tightrope over eugenics.
What happens when parents get to decide their child will have this phenotype and not a different one? What happens in legal custody battles over parental rights where a child's genome has been edited too much to recognize paternity? What happens to folks with Downs Syndrome and the stigma they already receive if society decides that Downs Syndrome can be edited out? I believe these are the moral and ethical questions we should be addressing, not "should we play God". I believe God has no place in this conversation because, ultimately, it is Man that will deal with the consequences.

When there's been a centuries-long orchestrated effort to indoctrinate society into thinking science proves God doesn't exist, it's no surprise we have to debate over the obvious issue of editing the human (or animal) genome. People that believe the Bible already know how this ended last time we started tinkering with genetics: God wiped the earth and saved 8 people to repopulate it, as they were the only ones left on the physical earth that weren't corrupted by the editing of genetics… and history repeats itself. Why do you think the most powerful and elite folks on earth practice despicable rituals, sex magic, sacrifices and idolizing things like Moloch and Baal? Because they know God is real, but have chosen the darkside to gain worldly power. Kabbalah, Talmudic ritual, Luciferianism. The greatest trick the Devil ever did was to convince everyone he isn't real… and if you don't believe in a Devil, you certainly don't believe in God.
There's nothing new under the sun. From a former atheist/agnostic that through years of research realized most science and physics is theoretical, heretical, and inaccurate leading me to seeking a higher form of wisdom and truth.

The US will make their citizens sick for business reasons 100% of the time. Such a great country to live in. If they can kill mosquitos, why not kill ticks?

The only thing natural, we should all be "natural," right? Or is this no longer a commonly used word? The only thing natural about technologically inducing genetic material … is … STUPIDITY. And that's ALL I have to say about that!

We should really get started on driving lonestar ticks extinct with this technology. Protecting cattle is great, but we could stop human suffering from tickborne disease as well.

Morality in a general sense is a collective force, not a coercive / manufactured consent force. Morality should never rest in the hands or minds of the few because otherwise it is not morality but an oppressive force.

OK, I usually bite my tongue but as you are a scientist . . . one will not choose their child's gender as gender is a social construct . . . scientifically one might choose their child's sex . . .
