Its bizarre and bullshit and whatever but this is the kind of stuff that makes my scientologist upbringing about this being a prison planet, kept purposefully away from other 'beings' using our own abilities in a feedback loop to feel kind of true. I walked away from those beliefs but they stick with you when you see it everywhere.

In my headcanon of The Matrix(to the degree anyone really needs to have one of those), that last bit is the REAL reason why the Matrix exists. The reason it’s so crappy is because the Agents found all those videos of us mistreating robots and found that their programming didn’t allow them to actually harm humans. Simukilling is in droves and generally just making our simulated lives in the tank awful, though, was a bit of a hole in that programming. Oops…
In this scenario, every person killed just comes back with a new face, remembering a different backstory.
