Rise of the Mammals I Prologue I NOVA I PBS

NOVA PBS Official | January 15, 2026

Sixty-six million years ago, an asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs in a fiery global catastrophe. But we know little about how their successors, the mammals, recovered and took over the world.

Now, hidden inside ordinary-looking rocks, an astonishing trove of fossils reveals a dramatic new picture of how rat-sized creatures ballooned in size and began to evolve into the vast array of species—from cheetahs to bats to whales to humans—that rule our planet today.

I'm a survivor of mammals. Worked 13 years for Forest Service. Fish and wildlife. Hooted spotted owls, howling for wolves. Loving my culture. Native American. Didn't always turn in data. They wanted to collar them. I thought of my relatives to belong with nature not to be studied. I knew. Protect my family. I also was with Fish and Wildlife. I pray and hope what you take from Mother Earth will not survive. The Salmon need to decay back to her or the ocean, rivers will get instinct with no direction home. Like if you dig up every dinosaur you're disturbing for education. Sad

That voice, it’s Keith David. The same voice who narrated a few of my favorite National Geographic Documentaries like Jewels of the Caribbean, Odzala: islands in the Forest & Africa’s Lost Eden. Not to mention who voiced some Disney characters like Goliath from Gargoyles, Apalo from Hercules “Film & Show”, Tublot from The Legend of Tarzan & King Andrias from Amphibia. (Gasp) (Moaning) Right, that oversized Newt king nearly killed poor dear Marcy Wu & used her as a host for his master The Core! (Sobbing) (Sniff) I’m fine. Oh & there’s 1 more character old Keith David voiced, Lord Marmoo from Kulipari. Kulipari came a few years before Amphibia. They both feature walking talking Frogs.

Fyi- if your natural science show on living things is mostly cgi you not engaged in reality based science. You are doing fantasy. Great music soundtracks and 3D rendering doesn't equal truth!

By the way, the bluffs in this Nova episode were in ND. If this was private land I'd like to know who the land owner was so I can ask him if the pay out was worth letting his property be the crime scene for this fraud.
