(cue delirious chanting in chorus : China! China! China!)
With a recent rough estimate of an annual rollout of over 4 million STEM grads from world-class national academic institutions coupled with top Chinese professors repatriated from overseas, add that to foreign top talents employed to collaborate as a collective creative force, not to mention being supported by a government viewing technological sovereignty as an national security of highest priority and throwing in a no-cap budget with generous tolerance of trials and errors, etc., etc., with so many “tops” as favorable conditions, any wonder why China is currently progressing and a certain aging President 47 keeps aging with frowns and tantrums? Any nation with such a magnitude of talent dedication complemented with indomitable resolve can only move forward…

The mighty ancient oriental dragon has been wide awake since WW2: what idiots would poke a snoozing dragon let alone one with eyes open? You don’t need Nostradamus to tell you but more and more Chinese breakthroughs will keep being announced in NATURE and top accredited journals alike, while patents pile on — everything is just a matter of time, behind closed doors of gigantic labs. As for the colonial west playing Snakes n Ladders with a zero-sum mentality, and smugly think they will win each and every time: time and tide waits for no man…

The Chinese saying goes, “There is always a mountain higher than the other” (think of those hidden under the oceans). Alas, a myopic person may not see it when he refuses to wear his glasses…

Soon we not need more just one PC IP addresses or VPN so that every computer can communicate privet, because what this AI we can soon do it privately, if this technology is inside every computer and under user control, then it means I can change my location every 1 second without anyone tracking or following me, I can have thousands of different IP addresses. Thank you creators. *People, don't listen to what the creators say, look at how you can make it work for you and have it under your control.*

I'm very excited about the neuromorphic technology. It's below it's commodore phase right now but the pace of improvements are faster than exponential. Also, Darwin Monkey is already a hard sci-fi in real-time. You didn't mention it. The most ambitious neuromorphic project by a long shot

Blatantly false info, a chatbot query cost leaving a light bulb on for an hour and generating an image cost using a microwave for 15 mins 😂. Impossible, why does gemini flash then allow about 50 images per account per day FREE! Your fake math aint mathing bro.

For anyone knowing that neuromorphic hardware and spiking neural networks aren't anything new, the new stuff from the research is this:
*- Linear Attention, which allows for more efficient processing, including less memory usage, I imagine.
    * adaptation of the activations of traditional neural networks into the spiking paradigm, which enables the sparse and low power computation and potentially ternary operations on the data, also enabling the systems to work on neuromorphic hardware.
    * Complete framework to convert traditional transformer models to the new architecture, which allows to reuse current models with this new spiking tech.
In the words of the researchers: "This work represents, to our knowledge, the first large-scale training of brain-inspired LLMs on a non-NVIDIA platform".
Not exactly new tech, but a way to adapt the current one to the existing neuromorphic hardware that is a lot harder to train, which is one of the reasons why we don't hear much about it, despite the fact that it is impressive and very powerful and promising.
Some of us believe that not only neuromorphic hardware and the spíking NN model is the future of AI, but combined with quantum tech, this could bring the awakening of consciousness in AI.
    Or not, who knows.

You should have focused on reporting on how these new chips could further AI development specifically to save your YT videos from being some of the worst hosted I've ever seen

Watching this breakthrough instantly reminded me of Selwyn Raithe’s book, where he warned that once AI architectures hit this kind of exponential leap, the geopolitical balance would shift almost overnight. Feels like we’re living right inside those pages right now.

China publishes a lot to "brag". US companies don't, so they can't "steal" from each other – but they will be working on similar stuff. We will see when the next models come out. They will only publish what they did after those are out for bit for competitive reasons.

As Elon Musk said we need to know the FIRST PRINCIPLE and DESIGN of Nature and the Universe. We need to know simple answers to FOUNDATIONAL QUESTIONS of PHYSICS and Life.

It is very concerning that China is doing all this great research. In the mean time our guys are building more data centers and refurbishing nuclear power plants. Feels like China is the brash young startup and we are the lumbering mega corp. More and more it seems China really is the future.

The water issue is such a nothing burger, datacenters can be run on closed water loops and it uses way less water than any other industry, we use more water to make almonds ffs.

It makes sense. Brains are shockingly efficient. Their energy consumption compared to its output is unreal. Even if there is a more efficient architecture in the space of all possible architectures the brain is the architecture that we have an actual example of in nature for us to mimic. I like this route for AI.

comment to 1:35 : desktop computers in the 90s did not heat up entire rooms lol 🙂 while they were not great energy savers they ran at low speeds and the graphic card didnt need more power than the bus would provide. typical power supplies were 150-250w. It was the 386/486 era. Usual Graphics card were S3, Matrox etc.
