What I am asking myself all the time and since decades:
How can intelligent Americans stand so much openly worn stupidity and ignorance within the rows of policymakers.
Probably in every parliament on this earth you have some simple minded representatives or deputies. In Germany's Bundestag we currently pay 151 "certified idiots" (AfD) who are not only annoying – and unfortunately dangerous – racists, mysogynists, neo-fascists, homophobics, xenophobics, and so on. They also upset you by their bottomless imbecility – and the fact having them elected into the parliament can be considered as the evidence of an existing education crisis in Germany.
But how can YOU stand this situation in the US where you are confronted with it since decades? I can not imagine it.

Surprised someone who got a tattoo didn't know what it meant? Not sure you thought that through enough. So many people get tattoos of symbols of which they don't know the meaning. And a military guy getting something like that and not knowing? To me, that's at least plausible. But when we compare our less than perfect people to theirs, sometimes we can lose the plot. He has apologized. Their people rarely do. Right now we are in a numbers game. If we can finally turn the tide, we can worry about more perfect candidates next time.

This has got to be rage bait. One minute they are saying his responses are too “workshopped” and the next they say he is “unpolished” and his responses to questions don’t meet their standards for a politician. You can’t have it both ways. Also, saying that the only woman interviewed who alleged anything “concerning” is a republican operative who offered to campaign for Susan Collins is NOT the same thing as saying “all the women are lying”. In fact, she was the ONLY one who made those claims. The other women said either that they see him in a positive light or at the most that he was struggling with alcoholism and infidelity, which he has already admitted to and discussed at length. And YES his wife is allowed to feel betrayed by their previous CAMPAIGN manager leaking information about their personal relationship that they discussed in confidence. Lastly, if you’re not someone with tattoos, stop assuming that everyone who gets a tattoo does all this research beforehand. It’s not that deep. People get tattoos all the time just because they “look cool” or because they’re drunk/high, or just because it was on the flash sheet of the artist. Hell, my husband has a tattoo that literally he gave the artist “dealers choice” on. None of his politics or Reddit/internet history suggests that he even remotely supports far right or Nazi ideology and if he passed several hate tattoo screenings to re-enlist in the military and so did all his buddies who got the SAME tattoo… why should we assume he knew that it was more than just a skull and cross bones? Y’all are annoying af

Well, ladies, you got it all wrong AGAIN. The Island of Sazan is well-developed as a Cold War bunker military base. Over 3600 nuclear proof bunkers, decommissioned missile silos, and over 10 miles of intersecting underground tunnels, and so much more. It's 1400 hectares that controls the entry and exit of ships into the Ionian Sea to and from the Adriatic Sea through the Strait of Otranta. It's about 4 x 5 miles, so a total of 20 sq miles big. The area around it has been granted natural refuge status, and the land area across from it. Such a SIMPLE search. I listen to you ladies bc of your facts. However, to blow it twice on something so simple, I feel like I've got to double-check everything you say, which sucks.

I love youi both – it was hard to watch you twist yourselves to accept Platner. A bit of twisting. This said, I agree with you: it is so uncomfortable aobut looking the other way about the tattoo and the treatment of women, but it is soooo important to get Shaky Sue Collins out of there

I'm sorry, Alyssa's take on the tattoo thing is ridiculous. Graham says he didn't know what it meant, but he's not saying "it's a collection of lines and curves that creates a figure and I'm not sure what that figure is." He said "it's a skull and crossbones." There was no question to be curious about. It's like going up to some gym dude in the 90s and going "hey, what does your tattoo mean?" And he's like "what does it mean? It's a barbed wire tattoo around my bicep." Dude never had a reason to think of it as anything but barbed wire, but if you then go "did you know that the barbed wire tattoo around the bicep was originally created by infamous Nazi Klaus Barbie, the Butcher of Lyon?" then the gym guy has a decision to make.

The man with the Nazi tattoo that he only covered up after weeks of people telling him that "I didn't know the totenkopf was a Nazi thing" wasn't plausible might have some other skeletons in his closet? Astounding.
However. He is now the nominee, and whether or not he wins it is vital that the Democratic party establishment not be given an excuse to say "see, anything but focus-tested plastic consultant-class candidates are a bad idea".

I do not know anyone who knew what that tattoo was or that it was natzi related, and I know so many people that have Chinese symbol tattoos that they have no idea what they mean or if they're even actually Chinese symbols. So people need to quit their pearl clutching about the tattoo

He was a young man in the marines. He served 3 tours in Iraq. He probably knew the tattoo was a Nazi symbol. It was badass. But maybe he grew up and realized war is a racket? Maybe he has grown and is the modern day Smedly Butler that chose to run for the Senate?

I know many people that got tattoos that represents very negative things but they are not aware. Also this ignorance does exist. I have a tat of a spider going down a web line. This usually means you spent time in jail and the longer the web line representa lengthy sentences. I never was in jail period.

The comparison of Cavanaugh and platinum is like apples and oranges. Did you guys forget that the FBI did go and investigate Kavanaugh, but was shut down and they did find witnesses and things that collaborated with the woman that accuse him of her being raped. It was shut down by trump.

There are more good and practical reasons for TERM LIMITS than against them. The biggest problem for 80 year olds serving is, their state stagnates; fresh blood and fresh ideas are critical to maintaining progressive and thriving communities… 10-15 years should be the max term, and up to the max age of 70! I mean if you can complete your vision for your state in that time period, shame on you! : (
Platner shall prove to be problematic for the Dems, this dude has very serious psych issues that shall resurface again, mostly likely sparking an impeachment during his Senate tenure… my God, what has politics come to, when this type of character is all we have to choose from as our leaders. Folks our nation has a major fucking problem… these types of candidates is not sustainable… and one DONALD JOHN TRUMP ignited it all, along with our nation's downfall. : (
