Republicans Are Pushing Bills to Outlaw “Abortion Coercion” & “Trafficking”

Hysteria | August 3, 2025

This week on Hysteria, Erin and Alyssa get into Trump’s hush money trial, the Australian mass stabbing tragedy, the new ways Republicans are trying to talk about abortion and the laws banning abortion coercion and trafficking.

Political commentator and comedy writer Erin Ryan and former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Alyssa Mastromonaco are joined by a bicoastal squad of funny, opinionated women to talk through everything from reproductive rights to romcoms. They break down the political news of the week, plus the topics, trends, and cultural stories that affect women’s lives. New episodes drop every Thursday. Get in touch: hysteria@crooked.com.

Crooked Media believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us—one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. We are a media network that showcases stories, voices, and opportunities for activism that inform, entertain, and inspire action, because it’s up to all of us to do our part to build a better world.

That’s it. End of mission.

@20:48 what if you live in a banned state but you know someone who will illegally perform a procedural abortion on you and you don't want to inform your employer in case they report you for breaking the law? There won't be many cases like that but it is possible

My question is this: HOW are these people getting around HIPAA?!?!?! Not only do they have to prove you were pregnant but ANYONE having anything to do with that information dispersal w/out the verified signature of that patient for THAT medical reason can and should be sued to the maximum amount allowable for violating HIPAA. EVERY time they violate a person's right to privacy and their protected health information, they should be sued.

The lengths those deluded people will go to legislate on made up nonsense (not just in correlation to Abortion, but also Transgender healthcare, "CRT" and School curricula/library contents) while ignoring a zillion actual, urgent problems, from gun violence to reigious covering of child abuse to environmental damage that endangers born and unborn children…) are both maddening and depressing.

If oneof the hosts would just quietly seek another project andleave rhe other to host this, that'd be great. One host is great at these essay type vids and the other would be fantastic at hosting round tables with other voices and deep diving into discussions around topics . . . . .

Don't worry faithful, your sacrifices to Moloch will continue unhindered. The male priests that are in office will see to it that they are not impeded. Follow the Satanic commandment: Do what thou wilt

Scientology coerces their "Sea Org" members to have an abortion. Its been verified. So, in that respect I agree no one should be coerced into an abortion. Doctors DO NOT coerce women into an abortion.

Those same religious people who are so against abortion are the same people who make whole rest an un-wed mothers' life hell for being pregnant in the first place. And, they never forget.

For my first pregnancy my supervisor ordered me to bring in a doctor's note that I was actually pregnant. When I got pregnant with my second I brought in a note to my new supervisor and she was gobsmacked that my first supervisor told me that such a note was required.

Our favorite Republican posing as a Democrat, Joe Manchin. I'm so happy he's not running for Senate again, but I hate that he'll be replaced by a more extreme Republican, who will wear that "R" with pride

Why are you promoting products, rather than fruit and vegetables? does everything have to be ultra-processed before someone from the US will get to eat it / drink it?

You can serve, and you should want to serve as a juror. It is something that our justice system depends on, and is a very worthwhile experience. Trying to dodge jury duty is childish.

As a adopted person it makes my stomach turn. Adoption is just a different form of trafficking. Also adoptive parents defending adoption is pretty twisted. Its not about you.

The stabbing in Sydney was beyond horrific, but in good news the baby that was injured was able to be stabilized and treated at the hospital and will make a full recovery. Unfortunately the baby's mother was one of the people killed (according to other people fleeing, her last act was trying to protect her child). It's a devastating event and the country is still in shellshock from it.
