In the US, drinking age is tied to motor vehicle accident data. They noted the higher the drinking age the fewer the accidents. When laws are made, they generally go across the board. So this hits service members, blind people, those without a license or a car…etc.

Having been 17 when I joined the USN, I totally understand the argument of allowing an underaged service member to drink. Having also been a restaurant manager years later, I understand the reaction & action of “Brad”. No matter the justification, breaking the law is breaking the law. Depending on state/local jurisdiction, “Brad” & “Terry” could be prosecuted & fined for selling that drink.

You know what's wild? It used to be a state by state issue until Reagan tied the states having a drinking age of 21 to getting federal highway funding. If Congress repealed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act then it would return to a state issues and many would lower it back to 18, as it should be.

There are so many things wrong with the U.S. and the legal drinking age is one of them. Americans can drive, join the army, smoke, vote, are considered legal adults, and can buy guns (another problem) all at 18, yet they can’t drink. So fucking stupid. There is absolutely no logic to it. I will never understand your country! 😂
