Suzan has been at the forefront of Native rights work, shaping national policy on the protection of #SacredSites, religious freedoms, treaty rights, mascot abolition, and language revitalization. Her efforts helped create #NAGPRA – the foundation of our repatriation work.
In recognition of Suzan’s lifetime of activism and advocacy for Indian Country, she was awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014 by President Barack Obama, the United States’ highest civilian honor,
In addition to her activism work, Suzan is a founding trustee of the Museum of the American Indian, a writer, lecturer, and poet.
