Red Hoop Talk EP 58: GRANDMOTHER DRUM: WOMEN AND THE DRUM
This Friday, May 28 at 7:00 pm Eastern, #REDHOOPTALK brings you a conversation titled #GRANDMOTHERDRUM: Women and the Drum.
Indigenous Women are the the center of their Nations – the life bringers. Many Indigenous Women have been shunned for wanting to sit at or play the drum in ceremonies, songs and healing.
But how much do we know about the history of women at the drum – the history before colonization? And, how are our ceremonies changing now because women and men’s roles are changing?
Indigenous Peoples and their Nations are diverse, and our cultural practices and lifeways are NOT static. There is a growing movement reigniting a deeper look at what we need as women to build strength and resilience from centuries of trauma.
On this episode of Red Hoop Talk, we will be joined by Anishinaabe women including Chickadee Richard, Richelle Scott, Lyz Jaakola, Sharon Day and Dona Gilane Yahola, as well as Pura Fe, musician from the Tuscarora and Taino Peoples, and Theresa Bear Fox, Mohawk. We will explore how women are “coming back” to the drum.
