Red Hoop Talk EP 52: HALI McKELVIE, Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa
TONIGHT at 6pm Eastern join #REDHOOPTALK when we visit with HALI McKELVIE, a citizen of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and the Community Outreach Specialist for Uniting Three Fires Against Violence, where Hali works to help Michigan Tribes address the disproportionate rates of violence and end the epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People.
Hali loves to work with Native Nations on topics necessary to understand issues of violence in Indian Country like Tribal jurisdiction, sovereignty, making effective social change, substance abuse, and learning about and resolving issues of domestic violence and sexual assault in Indian Country.
Along with providing education to professionals and advocating for community members, she also advocated for the passing of the Violence Against Women Act (2013) at the national level. Hali has a strong background in substance abuse treatment and community reintegration.
Prior to her employment with UTFAV, Hali served as their board treasurer, and worked as a Community Educator and Shelter Worker for the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Advocacy Resource Center.
