Red Hoop Talk EP 44: PATRICK DEL PERCIO, Cherokee
Patrick Del Percio (Cherokee/Italian/Irish descent) is a Cherokee language instructor, translator, and writer dedicated to the revitalization and perpetuation of the Cherokee language. Patrick holds a degree in International Studies from DePaul University in Chicago, and holds a certificate to teach the Cherokee language through the Cherokee Nation.
Residing in Oklahoma City, OK, Patrick is faculty at the University of Oklahoma where they teach the Cherokee language, and previously served as Program Coordinator for the D’Arcy McNickle Center for American Indian and Indigenous Studies at the Newberry Library in Chicago, IL.
Patrick has worked on various Cherokee translation projects including interface translation for Google and Facebook, and co-authored a Cherokee language textbook for beginners, ᏣᎳᎩ ᎣᏣᏕᎶᏆᎠ: We Are Learning Cherokee. They are also a co-founder of TIES, a series of readings centering Indigenous Queer, Trans, and Two Spirit writers based in the Midwest.
