#REDHOOPTALK LIVE visits with APRIL D. TINHORN who is Haulapai, Navajo and Chinese and the owner and founder of Tinhorn Consulting, LLC in Phoenix. April is a calculated gambler (i.e. investor) who doubled down on her hand of tribal connecting, digital translating, and digital brand strategy for the betterment of Tribal Nations. Her firm was named by the American Indian Science and Engineering Society as one of the Top 10 Businesses to Watch in 2020. Born and raised in the beautiful canyons of the Hualapai Tribe in northern Arizona, April has dedicated her life to disrupting perceptions about Indigenous People by embracing tech as a connection tool for Tribal Nations.
With a Masters of Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University, April has externed at Rhein-Main Air Base in Frankfurt, Germany, spoke on Tribal Digital Economies at the Global Women Trade Summit in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; and coded as a Computer Scientist for both the National Security Agency and IBM for six years.
April served as the President of the Grand Canyon Resort Corporation Board, is a board member of the National Association of Women Business Owners- Phoenix Chapter and was appointed as an inaugural board member for Native Women Lead. She was recognized as the 2018 Arizona State University Native American Alumni of the Year and was a Native American “40 Under 40” recipient from the National Center for American Indian Economic Development Center.
With more than 25 years of technology and Tribal relations experience, April has spearheaded Tribal initiatives from the Skokomish Indian Tribe in Washington to the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
In her down-time, she loves sharing a laugh with her eight-year-old daughter, Zoey Bear.
