Ramy Youssef – Comedy from Immigrant Family Experience in “#1 Happy Family USA” | The Daily Show

The Daily Show | January 14, 2026

Award-winning actor and comedian, Ramy Youssef joins Jon Stewart to talk about the new animated series he co-created called “#1 Happy Family USA” and how the series, which follows a Muslim family trying to navigate post-9/11 America, resonates in Trump’s second term. They also discuss his favorite parts about making an animated show, the family members who inspire some of the characters, and how the word “Islamaphobia” kind of lets Islamaphobes off the hook. #DailyShow #JonStewart #RamyYoussef

Ramy is likeable, humorous and quick-witted.

That said, his “other point of view” jokes sometimes fall flat. I’m all for cultural nuance and humorous observations, but sometimes people’s circumstances are overwhelming – and reducing them to a quirky, mainstream hipster joke with Muslim cultural overtones…I’m left scratching my head just a little.

Anyhow, I applaud his success and hope to catch one of his shows, sometime.

Jon, mad love for you — but antisemitism isn’t just “brethren,” it’s the same family reunion. Arabs are Semites too, but the term got hijacked. Islamophobia = hate of Islam. Antisemitism = hate of all Semites. Right now it feels like one side kept the cool brand name and the other got stuck with “shellfish allergy.” 😉 Jon Stewart 2028: If politics is clown school, at least get the funny teacher. 🇺🇸 🗽

10:52 You can see Stewart's Islamophobia when he proposes the name "Kosher Halal" for the music group instead of "Halal Kosher" 🙃😜🤪

Jokes aside, by the way what a great name to come up on the spot.

Love these two, you can tell they are genuinely friends. I can imagine Stewart Rami and Bassem Yussef invited in their home having Egyptian Molokhiyah having an intelligent conversation about history and politics
