Whatever happened to that show he was in, Backstrom? I thought that was a really good show and did great pulling him away from the Dwight character. It's unfortunate that it was canceled.

I would say he was like the second most brilliant thing beside Steve Carell was Rainn Wilson’s portrayal of Dwight. He did a lot of the heavy, lifting of just hilarious stuff. I mean he was basically the main character of the office.

Who cares if all he's known as it Dwight? Look at Chaim Topol, he made an entire carrier out of Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof. Wilson could get work for the rest of his life playing Dwight, and that's ultimately the deffinition of a sucessful actor, one who has work.

I fucking love Rainn Wilson but I also don't get why someone with a vision hasn't been like let's scoop this guy up and make him play someone who's so unlike Dwight that it'll knock everyones tits off

I love artists. If for no other reason than for finding new ways to be fulfilled that ultimately rob you of basic satisfaction and fulfillment. There’s nothing like getting what you wanted to reveal the true consequences of the thing, violating informed consent. There’s like a weird vortex at the end of every creative project where it either fails or it succeeds in some horrible way. I have nothing but compassion and love for everybody that continues to live the horror of being successful in ways that are uncomfortable and awkward. They make our lives better and get very little of what they need in return. And That’s why we pay them. We pay them so it’s okay when their success is a kaleidoscope fractal of shit you’ve moved on from.

Appreciate and respect the heck out of you for calling Rainn's bullsnizz. He was so caught off guard by that.
Need more real interviewers like this.
His plight is no different than that of Daniel Radcliffe. Their break through characters were so moneumental in popluar culture, how could they ever hope to escape those shadows.
There needs to be a lot more gratitude for getting to have that experience that so many of us will never have.
If everyone wins the lottery, the win doesn't mean anything

Rainn is far from the first successful person with feelings of frustration (or for some, even resentment) toward the thing that made them a success. "A gilded cage". He's self-aware enough to know that he ultimately is fortunate, and made pains in this very clip to make that clear, but he's also being honest that there is an element of frustration. It's a natural human feeling to want more, or at least to experience something different and new.
