Having swans for banquets is cruel, not cool.

You forgot to mention trenchers! Instead of a real plate you'd have a large piece of bread, often stale or of a bit poorer quality, and as you were eating the trencher would soak up all the juices and sauces of the feast. Then at the end of the feast they'd most often be given away to the peasants or the poor for free.

When I was little and out on a walk in the forest, I would always carry a knife up my sleeve like that for protection.
(Either that or in my boot, but only if I had my "that's not a knoif, THIS is a knoif" knife.)
