8:06 reminded me of my conversation yesterday with my girls. EVERYONE who makes music is a Top/Dom(me). All of them, even if they arent. Come & Get It is what happens when a bottom/sub makes music. Theres no aggression, no edge, no nothing, we just end up with "whenever you're ready…."

I will NEVER get the hate for Come and Get it. The song is hypnotic as hell

Welp, seven years later this is how I find out "Come & Get It" ISN'T a Rhianna song.

There is a big difference between watching the video of the song and hearing it on the radio at work in the bakery. Heard em on the radio 100 times and Selena is a snooze and this is my favorite Miley of all time bc of vibes

A decade later, "Come & Get It" is still one of the most boring songs, while "We Can't Stop" has at least this morose energy and sadness that makes it interesting. The sound design is not very good, but there's at least some thought behind it.

3:09 "Edge-Bono-U2-sis", huh? Curious if the writers made more musicians into spells on that show.
Not curious enough to actually watch the show, obviously, but curious enough to waste a minute on this comment.

I don't know if anyone else in the comments has said this, but, on the topic of that Rihanna comparison, both of these songs were originally written for Rihanna, but she turned them down.

So when Todd says that Selena’s song sounds no different than when she was at Disney, that’s because this song and album were made by Disney. As it was produced by the Disney owned Label Hollywood Records.

i think we can all agree We Cant Stop aged well and we forgot salena gomez's song long ago

PLEASE do flowers by Miley Cyrus. Is it the defining hit of her career? Is this what mature, grown-ass Miley hitting her final form?

I like we can't stop specifically because it is so despondent, really caught my mood at that time

Honestly I’m glad Miley started doing 80s rock and neo-disco because it suits her voice and personality.

All of Selena's songs are made funnier if you imagine she is singing to and about justin bieber/the weeknd.
I know its all written for her but she comes off as the worst type of desperate.

The cover by Bastille of We can't stop, really emphasizes how the song is a depressing drab song about meaningless hedonism.

I choose to believe that We Can't Stop is a parody of party songs, and the "We" in the title is actually supposed to be referring to the music industry, particularly its obsession with party songs at the time.

That joke about Disney stars being carefully grown to be every ethnicity has aged very well considering that Ariana Grande has gotten a lot of flak for trying to look like…every single ethnicity.
(Yes I know she was from Nickelodeon but still)

"We Can't Stop" in many was presaged the rise of the Xanax rap that pollutes the airways these days.

'can't stop' is the 3am song.. . after you've been "partying" (ahem.. . with MILEY) for a solid 8 hours it slaps.. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

It’s a testament to how much more interesting an artist Miley turned out to be than she was given credit for that you called We Can’t Stop ‘soulless’ despite being able to read a whole bunch of emotion into it and rolled your eyes at the idea of Miley being edgy while being very scandalized by her.

“We Can’t Stop” sounds exactly like “City on our Knees” by Newsboys, a Christian band

Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!…Whoa….Whoa. We're all entitled to our opinions, but easy when talking about my girl Selena Gomez (though in your defense, I guess it depends on which era of her music you're addressing). And out of curiosity, do any of Selena's later songs do better for you or do you feel that they're all the same? For example, I'm a big fan of songs like "Wolves/To Get To You" and "Back to You," "Lose You to Love Me," and "Look at Her Now."
Also, to end on a more positive note, I'm new to your videos. So far I'm really enjoying your reviews of songs (and films involving singers) as well as your awesome cinematography of you and your piano silhouetted in the pale light in that dark room. Very bad ass. Normally I don't pay much attention to song-related trends and history but I really enjoy your comedic and casually brooding approach to delivering short-and-sweet reviews. You make a subject matter I don't normally follow interesting.

Cant stop is about addiction and the fear of loosing ever thing if you get sober yah its going to be sad. I kind of see this point in Miley like Nile Youngs contract albums.

The original lyrics to come & get it where a lot better in my opinion. You can listen to the demo version by Ester Dean on youtube.

Least these girls are trying to sell loud while more modern songs are just so quiet and whispery
