POP SONG REVIEW: “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran

Todd in the Shadows | November 8, 2025

I really, really did not want to imagine Ed Sheeran’s O-face. Thanks for that, Ed.

This song reminds me of that one Swan Princess scene:
    "Is beauty all that matters?"
    "What else is there?"
Now, literally every single character in that movie agrees that "What else is there?" was the stupidest, most shallow answer possible. Even a cheap Disney movie knock off managed to grasp that simple concept.

"Shape of you" is "What else is there?" in song form.

7 years since this song came out… honestly, it doesn't bother me that much at this point. But i think the "this could work for rihanna" vibe was the big problem, there was so much music that sounded like it could be sung by Rihanna in 2017, especially from Sia.

Adam levin looks like the kind of man who will dump you while looking in the mirror and than cry to you on the phone how bad he feels about it.
Ed Sheeran isn't sexy, But he is sexier

There's this little jingling throughout the song that I think is a guitar pick scraping against acoustic guitar strings, but it sounds more like a person with a fistful of coins in their hand shaking them in time with the music, and it kinda bugs me.

It's not a big deal, but what's about that?

Todd: I don’t know what people are going to think of when they look back on 2017, but I don’t think it will be this.
2024: Shape of You and Despacito were the biggest songs of the year and Shape of You is now Billboards 10th biggest song of all time only one spot behind the god damn Macarena!

Ngl I never thought this song was about sex. If you imagine it as a teenager (which I was at the time) with a crush on their friend it all still fits. All the things you want to do with her, hanging out in your room together as friends, you could not even be dating this girl and it would still fit to me. That’s what this song was.

nah dude, i think u mean the early to mid 2010s as the best era for pop music since the 80s and that brief blip in the late 90s because in the same video (which was uploaded in 2017), you're saying that it's were everything is trending downwards and sounding sickly dying.

This song ruined a nostalgic moment I was having. I was working my first office job at the time and after a particularly draining day once I finished my shift instead of going home I went to a playground I used to go to as a child and sat on a tire swing. I know it was stupid but it made me feel like a kid again. It was silent for a few minutes but then I heard a radio playing in the distance. The first song was a 90s song and it kept the illusion up but when the song ends guess what plays next? Motherf*cking Shape of You. It just shattered the illusion and brought me back to the present. I get off the swing and go home more than a bit pissed off.

since you were talking a lot about how this is a song about ed sheeran having sex, i was expecting the outro song to be something like color me badd-i wanna sex you up.
