The New Role of the Philippines | ENDEVR Documentary

Watch ‘Inside China’s Elite: Rise and Fall of Billionaires’ here: https://youtu.be/f6bk_si_u0Q

The Taiwan conflict has brought the Philippines back onto the global political stage. Will the island state under Ferdinand Marcos Jr. become the new geopolitical demarcation line in the showdown between China and the US? Tensions in the South Pacific are bringing the Philippines back onto the big geopolitical stage.

Elected to office in May 2022, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the president has distanced himself from his predecessor Duterte’s China-friendly policies and signed an extended defence agreement with the US. The US has thus secured access to military bases in the Philippines and changed the map in the region. If the country entered into a war with China over Taiwan, the Philippines would become a frontline state due to its proximity to Taiwan, its strategic location in the South China Sea and its historical military partnership with the US. The fact that the island state is driven by major internal political tensions makes the situation even more fragile. The stress test the Philippines will have to pass in the coming months may also have global repercussions.

Filmmaker Carsten Stormer, who has lived in the Philippines for many years, follows developments in the country and examines its geopolitical role in these turbulent times until the US’s largest military exercise in the Philippines in May 2024. What do China and the US hope to achieve and which of the two superpowers will ultimately assert itself in this geopolitical struggle for the West Philippine Sea with its vital trade routes for Europe?

This documentary first aired in Germany September 2024

One of my father's best friends served in the Philippines during WW2.
He used to say the Filipino underground were the best soldiers he ever served with. He had tremendous respect for Philippine culture.

I believe the main problem in the world is the differences of religion, coz being religious we should all be brothers and sisters without hostilities. For religious people admires most to be compassionate, amiable, and maintain peace always. And for the True Holy Blessed Faith, Pls. Read Exodus 20:1-7/Matthew 22:34-40 & Romans 12:3/Isaiah 56:1 (NIV).

Some of the “activism” of the Philippine students was so dumb. Like are we really saying that prostitution cropping up around military bases is the fault of the US? They are talking to this villager about how a helicopter landed and it mildly frightened them? None of these things are remotely good reasons to not have military bases.

Not to mention, do they really think if the Americans leave they will be MORE safe? That just means when China attacks they will fight by themselves and inevitably lose.

So the reality is, side w the US and let us help defend your sovereignty OR let China continue to disrespect your nation and eventually they will fully take control and yall can enjoy the wonderful freedom and economic benefits (lol) that come with the CCP.

Not to affect both country and niebouring countries as well. So China won't start a war. China's moto is not to hurt or start a war with any other country esp the USA. So my guess is the USA like always will start the war with China.

If the Philippines wants to learn more to gain knowledge and be independent then yes they can. Other countries shouldn't be mindful of their constution and undermine their sovereignty. They can tell the USA that in case of war with China they are not going to be able to use the military bases. Done.

Salute to the inhabitants of those close to contested islands, who endure the nightmare of seeing those chinese ships patroling where they use to fish and now they can't. 🙁 The current admin stand in the matters of WPS is better than the Jet ski promise.
