Numerous customers have reported significant issues with the PayPal Honey rewards program regarding the December 2025 20% cash back promotion, including a failure to receive payouts. Many of these problems were due to widespread technical glitches on PayPal's end, and the company is aware of the situation.

PayPal has faced significant challenges, including declining stock, competition, and user issues with fraud, account limitations, and recent technical problems impacting direct debits, leading to financial and operational strains, despite efforts by the new CEO to address core business issues.
    Key Issues Facing PayPal:
Financial & Stock Performance: After massive growth, PayPal's stock lost significant value, with its business model and slowing e-commerce growth posing threats, notes Forbes.
Increased Competition: Rivals like Apple Pay have gained traction, challenging PayPal's dominance in digital payments, reports YouTube.
Fraud & Security Concerns: PayPal deals with constant fraud from bots, phishing, and scams, leading to user distrust and significant financial losses, impacting both legitimate transactions and system integrity, as seen in a 2022 admission of millions of illegitimate accounts and a 2025 security system failure in Germany.
User Account Problems: Users have reported issues with account limitations, frozen funds, and difficulties with tax form reporting (1099-K).
Strategic Challenges: The company's unbranded checkout (like at Venmo) yields lower profits, and the new CEO finds metrics like funds leaving Venmo quickly unacceptable, says The Motley Fool.
Legal & Regulatory Scrutiny: PayPal faced a subpoena from the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) in 2023 regarding its stablecoin, Paxos.
    Recent Incidents:
August 2025: A security system failure in Germany caused banks to block billions in direct debits, disrupting payments and highlighting system vulnerabilities, according to this IT Daily article and Heise.
December 2024: A YouTuber alleged massive fraud by Honey (a PayPal acquisition), leading to class-action lawsuits.
In summary, PayPal is navigating a challenging period marked by heightened competition, security issues, regulatory focus, and internal operational hurdles, impacting its market position and user trust.

I've blacklisted Paypal since they covered up for a fake webstore that scammed me. A whole family of fake webstores using real shipping tracking numbers.

I have to cancel my PayPal after I get things organized. I got overcharged by someone. Bought product for $49 and charged $63 by PayPal. No contact from the seller so I am out. PayPal won't help me. They keep closing my case and shutting off the chat. I have been nothing but kind in my communication. I see their stock is way down. I an not surprised.

PayPal is a great company, and offers an excellent payment processor. They should offer innovative ideas, like open source API and plugins. Handling cryptocurrency and building PayPal USD was a great move. They should avoid "hard KYC".

Good for u. Somebody hacked into my account, and thank goodness I had my text message system set up…somebody purchased 2 items and i immediately called my bank put a hold on my account. Then I contacted PayPal and put it shortly it took forever to get through to them. I couldn’t sign in anymore bc password was changed. I called PayPal and they told me they can’t do anything bc I can’t log in. Which was ridiculous. PayPal owned by mobsters. It took lots of hours days to resolve this stupid issue. Never again.

I got a refund for something I purchased online and the only way to receive the funds (so I thought) was to have it sent through PayPal.
It took literally close to 2 months to get the money $600.00 I just about gave up and their customer service is completely useless as well as their automated services.
    Bottom line, never use PayPal.

Caution when Using Pay-Pal – I recently ordered a Belt. Item was UnOpened and Still in the Plastic. I contacted Pay-Pal to "Make an Exchange for the Proper Waist Size" and was Denied? How can you Not Allow a Customer to make an Exchange ( not a Return ) for the Correct Size ???

I've been using them for my business from almost 20 years, and I hate them. I can't wait until the day an honest competitor allows me to leave them. And no, Stripe is not an honest competitor, they stuck too.

I cannot see how Paypal has any serious competitors. I have been using it since it started, anything online I buy using Paypal. It even offers credit. Why anyone would want to leave, especially any ebay purchasers is beyond me!!
