OZZY heartbreak😢 IRON MAIDEN weep, AS I LAY DYING, DREAM THEATER, DEVIN TOWNSEND & more | Metal News

Metal Pilgrim | April 11, 2026

Ozzy Osbourne has finally been inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame… yet his condition leaves us not much hope for Ozzy’s return on stage. At the same time Dream Theater played first live concerts after their reunion with Mike Portnoy on their A Night With Dream Theater Tour.

Meanwhile pretty much everyone leaves As I Lay Dying… jeopardizing the band’s existence and the release of their new album. And Iron Maiden fans weep for the band’s legendary frontman Paul Di’Anno, yet are already preparing tributes for him for 2025.

Devin Townsend finally releases his new studio album Powernerd and joins me for an interview. And Testament are getting ready to release a new album, which will feature an usual collaboration with Nightwish Floor Jansen.

New releases by Enforced, Cradle of Filth, Fit For an Autopsy & much more in the new Metal Digest! Here you go!

So I love Dream Theater, but you can't really call it a reunion without Kevin on keys. I'm glad Portnoy is back, but I still miss him on keys (although I know there was a lot more to it than just his playing).
Sad to hear that Ozzy won't be able to perform anymore. I've been expecting it for a while, ecstatic he FINALLY got his place in the HOF though! And I definitely agree, he didn't have the greatest voice, but he did have a very distinctive voice that made his music what it was. No one else could've done "Mr Crowley" nearly as well as he did!!

I bet it's awesome and I can't wait. I love Testament and Floor. (Not so keen on new Nightwish, but it's not Floor's fault. She just sings what Thoumas writes. But she is capable of singing serious metal). And Testament as a band just keep better and better. All their last albums have been masterpieces.

Devin Townsend never shied away from being all over the place creatively. (Almost every mood = a new band/project. And why not? ) Good for him still going wherever the process leads him – & hails from Metro Van.

I like ballads from metal bands if they are actually metal. Helloween has good metal ballads. Many ballads made by metal bands are just soft rock songs made so band can get on radio or MTV.

Obviously, there are exceptions – Nothing Else Matters is a great ballad by a metal band. Wasting Love by Maiden is good. But especially ones from power metal bands tend to be very "meh". Not anyway heavier that anything by Aerosmith or Guns and Roses or Scorpions but of lower quality.

    – Do I like ballads in metal? Man… it is the same answer as in any genre: it ALWAYS depends on how good (or not!) the song is.
    – As for Randy Rhoads, he is one of the rare guitar heroes that nobody dares to change his guitar solos. And that 's for a reason!

Who cares about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? They are a bunch of hacks that only know about money and nothing about music. Who gave them the right to induct anybody to an art that they don't know crap about? It's like a Mcdojo fake master with a belly giving grades to a seasoned warrior like Buakaw Banchamek.

I don't mind ballads but it does seem like they were created to make the band more mainstream add to anyone reading this if you are not subscribed Please Subscribe nowā¤ā¤ā¤

Come on Metal heads support each other so hit that subscribe! Sad about Ozzy wish him well but is there anyone who's not surprised he's lived this long given his past. I hope Maiden can do something like a hologram of Paul singing for their live shows. Testament and Jansen colab I'm there! Now at 60 this Metal Head Elder loves ballads! Just listen to Savatage m/!

Body count and Ice T working with David Gilmour on their version of comfortably numb, excellent and unexpected. Considering how DG and NM did the Rise up song to benefit Ukraine, I think it bears worth mentioning on the show. I bet Ice T would do an interview with you, have you reached out to him?
