I used to have a parrot until she passed. If she had mushrooms or other things she didn't like in her food because she ate a little tiny plate of the same supper we did each night she would go around to everyone she liked and pick out the "bad" thing from our food for us. Clearly she was thinking about other people and had forethought.

I can't see anything in my head except dreaming. But I can "feel" things and draw from logic.

I can see the apple, instantly, easily, and perfectly clearly. A single ideal apple in a dark void with a bland grey “floor” for it to rest on.
That said, I can also lift it, move it, rotate it at whatever speed; split it in half or into cuts, either sharp and clean or torn and messy. I can pulp it, explode it, shrivel it with time until it withers and rots. I can zoom into the apple, and see its structure at a near-microscopic level, or I can zoom out and picture it in its natural environment as part of a tree.
I can then further pull back and see the tree as a whole, as part of an orchard, with buildings and workers, etc. I can then go further outward to the next “level” or I can go right back to focusing on the apple again.
My mind’s eye is stupidly powerful/effective. I can use it to create whole world’s and events, playing it out like a living 3D movie inside my head. It’s like having a Holodeck from Star Trek inside my brain. I do this when I write. I literally imagine the scene/story in my mind and then play it out, rewinding, skipping ahead, going back, all the while tweaking it repeatedly until I get all the details just right… then, when I’m satisfied, I write it down.
I can come back to the scene and recreate it on queue too, and I do this when editing and rechecking what I’ve already written.
It’s incredibly useful but it does take a lot of time and energy. In some ways it’s also a huge potential problem, because I can literally retreat into an idealized world inside my head whenever I choose. It’s a massive temptation, especially when I’m actively procrastinating on something. So I have to really keep a handle on it.

With respect, I don't think it's about delaying action, but increasing the complexity of the models which drive motor behaviors based on inputs as well as memories which are internal states representing past inputs.
If computation could take less or even no time, that would be an improvement for the organism, but generally computation takes time.
The Super AGI in Ian M Banks scifi Culture series (which are called Minds) think so fast that they can have entire conversations with each other and do detailed data analysis in the time it takes between two words spoken by a human who is speaking sentences out loud.
It's not that a creature wants a delay between inputs and outputs, but that they want more complex computational models in between, which creates a delay as a side effect.
