Todd in the Shadows | July 14, 2026

They were young, hot, twins and poised to break out as Australia’s hottest international pop stars, and then they disappeared for nearly a decade. What happened to The Veronicas?

I actually do remember this band and thought that first album was good and still listen to forever but was not a fan of the second album and didn't even know about the 3rd, a shame how they were practically sabotaged

It’s crazy to hear that Untouched is their biggest single bc I’ve never heard it lol. Mind you, I was an edgy kid in Australia in 2008 so The Veronicas were made in a lab for me to like them. And l did like them. Popular and Take Me On The Floor were in my pop rotation alongside Lady Gaga and Kesha.

A lot of the songs in that video makes me think "I've think i've heard this somewhere", but I'm not sure I actually did or if I just remember hearing that type of sound because it was the style at the time.

As an elgibbity, I can attest that we tend to end up longing for people who live in the wrong part of the country/world an awful lot. So I can see why a long distance anthem would be a hit.

as one of "the gays" I guess is because that they give "tatu" energy. In my defense I just learned (thru this video) that they are sisters. I know like 3 songs of them and never bother to google them… so yeah… that's my theory.

"did you know tATu had more than one song?"
todd did you not also spend your sophomore year of high school constantly listening to your dangerous and moving and 200 km/h in the wrong lane CDs on the bus, i thought that was a universal experience

The two biggest reasons I think this song managed to gain traction, without mentioning anything that Todd brought up:

    1. That opening. The opening hook can make or break a song, and those strings just punch you right in the face. Whether you like or dislike the song, you NEVER forget them. I guarantee if you just play the first two seconds and stop RIGHT THERE, anyone will go "Oh yeah, I know that song."

    2. It's JUST the right blending of genres. It had the hints of dance, synth, and electronic that were about to explode in a couple short years to give it that pop relevance. But at the same time, it had enough guitar and edge to it that allowed rockheads to get into it, with the girls' emo aesthetic giving them HUGE inroads with that audience. Basically, it appealed to pop fans, rock fans, and emo fans all at once.

Songs like this and Pink Pony Club and all that just never stop reminding me how much of a different species altogether Pop LGBTs feel from my own kind of LGBTs… just… absolutely incompatible… 😂😂😂

As a kid born in the mid 90s, I remember these pop songs growing up. Untouched played a ton at my first grocery store job. While these songs annoyed the hell out of me then, I've grown to like them now that I'm in my 30s looking back.

I will say that I believe a lot of modern queer kids form their awakening through long distance relationships, just generally speaking. Not to mention unrequited yearning, it makes sense to me why it resonates so much.
