It's funny. Every time Todd brings up Christmas At Ground Zero, I always think "That's not even the first absurdly dark christmas song by Weird Al that comes to mind" because my childhood was always more defined by The Night Santa Went Crazy.

The movie made me hate fruitcake for some reason. Maybe it was the poisoned fruitcake? It just looked so strange. The entire movie gives the same feeling as the song. It’s hard to sit through but some parts just live rent free in your brain against your will. It is truly the squatter of Christmas movies and music.

Every time i hear this song, my brain sings "grandma got run over despacito, oppa gangnam style christmas eve, you might say to go and whip and nae nae, but im happy in my home with minecraft steve"

It was like my genz version of sticking out your gyatt for the rizzler

I'm surprised that anyone hates this song. Even as a kid, I quickly tired of the happy-sappy stuff you get force-fed during the holiday season, so when I first heard this song as my second grade teacher played it for the class, I instantly laughed from the first few words stating the title and premise of the song, and realized almost as instantly that Grandma was very much dead, something I had to explain to some of my classmates, who misheard "me and Grandpa" as "me and Grandma," which made them think she'd loved to tell the tale.

Obviously, I'm much older now and don't find it so riotously hilarious, but it's certainly still amusing and usually gets me to at least crack a smile. One major point in its favour is that you don't hear it all over the place, all of the time. It only occasionally pops up and rarely more than once per December, so I've never had to deal with getting sick of it.

Just one of those songs i cant imagine caring about to hate or love. It isnt funny or good music, it sucks, but like. Whatever. Who could care. I dont think its all that morbid though. Maybe just a generational or personal thing but death isnt all that shocking a premise for anything honestly

You know, the album collecting all of Elmo Shropshire's Christmas novelty songs even has a song about the backlash of his big hit. It's called "Don't Make Me Play That Grandma Song Again", and it's about a DJ who's reached the end of his tether, to the point where he begs for/threatens to play 24 hours of dogs barking Christmas carols instead.

At this time of year, I listen to mcr's cover of all I want for christmas is you. It's such a bait and switch, that counters everything you've git to associate with christmas. Mariah Carey wouldn't approve. Hell yeah.

So, milage may varry on how edgy you are and if you have good connection to your grandparents.
And in my case- I don't have good connection with mine, for…. a lot of reasons (one of which is that grandma from my dad's side is a backstabbing snake) and I'm still somewhat edgy.
