You just don’t get enough pop songs about the complete and total annihilation of the human race, you know?

His part of “tell me over and over and over” just makes me think of a rougher sounding version of breakfast at Tiffany’s

Over 60 years of delusional leftists shrieking about the sky is falling and imaginary “fascists”. It’s nice that people are finally tired of it.

I had a music appreciation class in 6th grade and this song radicalized me ❤

Reminds me of Bender's broken friend, likely inspired by this.

Wow – at 2:20 or so the guy sitting on the roof of the car is vomiting or something. Don't just stand there singing (poorly) Barry – help the dude!
Sidenote I saw Barry McGuire live in 1981 or so performing Christian music or something at RAF Lakenheath in England. He did not perform this song, however.

This was actually a hit? Cause wow, this song is horrible. There is nothing redeemable about it.

I used to sing this song in karaoke and substitute “Selma, Alabama” with whatever town I happened to be in at the time — and it would always get a big cheer.

The writer of this song, P.F Sloan, says that this song was written when a mysterious voice, “perhaps an angel” guided him and told him to write it, including telling him the entire history of the world until 2024.
Lou Adler, His co-producer, says that the song was written after he handed Sloan a copy of The freewheelin’ bob Dylan and asked him to write a bunch of Knock offs.
I’ll leave you to decide which story is more believable.

This song is 60 years old and considered a classic and in another 60 years probably still will and THIS guy who comments is what? Nothing…..yet he knocks those who succeed..what a creep.

For anyone watching this video in mid 2025, you may also enjoy Fantastic Voyage, released by Bowie in 1979
We'll get by, I suppose
It's a very modern world, but nobody's perfect
It's a moving world, but that's no reason
To shoot some of those missiles
Think of us as fatherless scum
It won't be forgotten
'Cause we'll never say anything nice again, will we?

My dad enjoyed protest songs such as this, War by Edward Starr, and Hair from the Cowsills.

Watching this for the first time in 2025. It may not have been relevant nine years ago at this video's drop, but it feels more than relevant today……

For future reference it's pronounced "Phil Oaks," like the tree. Barry McGuire and Phil Ochs are both better singers than Bob Dylan.
