Yeah, when I was in high school, mid to late 80s, the big local bands were Odin and Armored Saint. I remember getting home after school and watching their videos on MTV. Looks like they were all maybe just around five years older than me. So, it’s been cool over the past several years getting to know all the guys from the big local bands.

    Reinkus Tide too. Big time!

Plus, I just lived about a mile from where Chris Holmes and Lita Ford lived in Tujunga, later 80s. We would go to parties right up Chris’s street, Haines Canyon. Chris would usually come walking up the street with a drink in his hand, hanging out out front and talking with us. But I never saw Lita, even though a lot of people would see her around, or at the local Ralphs supermarket.

I just remember, we’d ask Chris where Lita is, and he would say, “I left the old lady at home.” Chris was the man, ha ha! I just ran into him at NAMM, had a nice chat with him until a crowd started gathering. Then I caught up with him a little more later in the day. He didn’t remember me, of course, but I told him the stories, and just talked about those days back in town. Really cool guy. Hope he recovers from this latest about he is going through.

And I just saw Lita a few months ago, she performed at the annual Ronnie James Dio benefit concert here in LA. So I talked with her as her bodyguards were escorting her out to her car, so she wouldn’t get mobbed. But I mentioned our old town, Sunland-Tujunga, and she got a kick out of that and gave me a nice smile for the picture.

9:15 I heard the same thing about my band, HORIZON, in 1989. That we broke the record at Gazzarri’s that February. We always heard it was Van Halen’s record. But I’m sure other bands have broken, or more likely tied it. Hard to say.

You could have the main floor packed, where the main stage was, in 1989. Then downstairs around the pool tables could be packed, and then up in the balcony would be packed to the gills.

I say this kind of jokingly—because although we did bring a lot of people since we were young band, just out of high school—the reason it was so packed was that it was also the record release party gig for Brunette. They had just gotten signed.

But we actually rented a few school buses that we filled up with kids from town, Sunland-Tujunga area, so they all made it that night.

So, who knows, a third of the people there may have been there to see us, ha ha.

We all know Greg, he’s also the local amp guru for a long time now here in the La Cresenta area—and beyond. So I’ve gotten to know him over the past six years or so. Man, he’s done a lot of great stuff, and still recording.

But, yeah, from the timing of it, I thought that was maybe supposed to be him, in the dirt. But the guy in the dirt, they had him looking like he couldn’t even play. So they might’ve just made somebody up. Unless some guy did come in that couldn’t play, just before Mick.

Because Greg was awesome, you could hear it in as early playing, a lotta bands sounded like him after he left them. And this other guy Andy is talking about must’ve been really good too. So they took a little artistic liberty in that scene, all good, great movie.

    Great stuff, Randy!

I hope Cleopatra pays him. I read on the Helios Creed fan page that they have a pattern of not paying their artists while continually pressing and selling their albums. Sounds like the same pattern Greg Ginn does with SST Records. Pretty annoying that record companies can get away with that.

Yeah i always thought that must be water because putting vodka in your eyes will cause intense, dangerous chemical burns, severe pain, and potential permanent vision damage. The high alcohol content strips away the protective cell layers of the cornea. No matter how wasted Chris legit was that would have fucked him up.

And we pulled the water trick on someone, the preacher was coming to my house every week to get me to go to his church, so to discourage his visits, we actually filled up a bottle of empty bottle of Vodka with water and had a kid posed drinking it while wearing women's clothing, the preacher stopped coming by that week. Dirty trick to play and that man, I did join or rather marry into his church.
