NOPE Fan Theories with Keke Palmer, Daniel Kaluuya, Steven Yeun and Brandon Perea | Vanity Fair

Vanity Fair | January 7, 2026

Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, Steven Yeun and Brandon Perea take turns reading, confirming and denying ‘Nope’ fan theories from Reddit. Is ‘Nope’ an acronym for “Not Of Planet Earth?” Is the entire film based on a theory that aliens will replace humans? Where do Mulder and Scully fit into the Nope equation?

Love that someone thought OJ was an alien cos of the way he acts, meanwhile I saw the movie and went 'oh he's neurodivergent gotcha'

yeah i remember when this was coming out i never thought it was aliens but i did think that the ship wasn;t a ship that it was the alien

pleasant surprise that it wasn't even an alien just a mysterious earth born lifeform i particulary like the atmospheric cnidaria classification

The theory about them all being aliens and forgetting they're non-human is already a movie, its called They Live, and the one with aliens replacing civilization is also a movie which came the year after called No one can save you, my 4th favorite alien movie

Amazing how some people really thought outside the box and came up with their own unique, interesting plots for a movie, and yet none of them even came close to what the movie is about. Takes real talent to write a story like that.

I'm ashamed to say this but this movie was hard for me to watch… I still don't get the point of the movie… I watched it twice but naaa. Ruin it for me

I love how so many people were just flat out wrong. Even with hindsight of watching the film, the trailer only scratches the surface of it's own thesis.
