No new IRON MAIDEN ❌ PRIMAL FEAR drama, OVERKILL newcomers, DREAM THEATER, OASIS & more | News

Metal Pilgrim | May 9, 2026

Steve Harris once again reiterates that there is no new Iron Maiden album in sight, while Iron Maiden are about to start the new leg of their Future Past tour in Perth, Australia. Meanwhile, pretty much everyone quotes Primal Fear, yet Ralf Scheepers and Mat Sinner already found the new guitarists to form Primal Fear 2.0.

Oasis reunite and the whole world is going crazy… which makes us think about which reunions we’d actually want to happen. Overkill announce the name of their new drummer and Dream Theater revealed a new box set. New releases by Michael Schenker, Wind Rose Wintersun and other bands, as well as an interesting thought from Accept’s Mark Tornillo. Heavy Metal is alive and well, so let’s see what keeps it going in the new Metal Digest. Here you go!

00:00 – Intro
00:22 – New release by Dream Theater
02:54 – Primal Fear 2.0
06:24 – New blood in Overkill
08:16 – No new Iron Maiden
11:12 – Blitz releases
15:20 – The actual news about Oasis
17:25 – Metal to the masses

LOVEBITES had their double release this week (actually a triple release, if you count RE-LOVEBITES EP, the re-release of their debut EP with Fami). "Memorial For The Warrior Souls", the new live album, may become the best of its kind. But at least the new songs on "LOVEBITES EP II" (their 4th EP) I have expected to be mentioned at least in the "Blitz releases" part, since you knew it since the great interview 2-3 months ago and demanded new material… It is quite a diverse EP, you'll find something to love on it!

Portnoy back is great news, but they needed to replace the vocalist. As good as James is, he is not constant and they need someone that can sing well every time.

I wish Primal Fear would bring back Henny Wolter again. Either way Matt and Ralf write everything anyway but it would be cool to see Henny back

Primal Fear steals a song from Dream Theater and call it Overwhite and the week after, the song disappears and half of the band quits.

Iron Maiden has 17 albums. At least 12 of them are great. I'm satisfied, I don't need more. I'd rather have a tour. UP THE IRONS!

Great to see Dream Theatre and Mike Portnoy reunite! Jason Bittner is bad ass, starting with Shadows Fall. He was also with Flotsam & Jetsam! A monster on the drums! Sad that we won't be hearing any new Maiden songs in the near future! Hoping Senjutsu isn't their last album! I hope the new leg of the Future Past tour has some surprises! Maybe we will see a different set list than the first leg! Can you imagine some songs they haven't played in ages, like Where Eagles Dare???? Or how about Powerslave????? Or, can you dig it, To Tame a Land?!?!?!? Oasis is NOT metal, so we don't care! 🙂 I would love to see BOTH the Cavalera brothers of Sepultura reunite with Paulo Jr. and Andreas Kisser on stage, and yes, i would love to see Sebastian Bach and Skid Row reunite! The problem with Bach is that he's old now, and he doesn't have the same vocal chops as he did 30 years ago. Still, i would love for both parties to bury the hatchet! Some bands that i would like you to focus on in future versions of your "digest" is Funeral Doom Metal. There are a lot of bands playing this type of metal. The bands are very talented. Some of the songs are half hour to an hour long. Check out the music of Ahab, Evoken, Colosseum, Doom Vs., Longing for Dawn. Check out the band The Howling Void, which is a 1-man band. Another band like this is called Frowning. Also, check out some of the bands that come from all over the world. One band i saw that looks pretty good is called Acrassicauda. It is a band from Baghdad, Iraq! They are now based in Brooklyn, New York. Check out the Indian metal bands. Check out the Chinese metal bands. Check out the bands from Indonesia, South America, and the South Pacific. There are a gazillion metal bands on the planet!

On a final note, check out this crap! Yes, i call it VERY MUCH crap! It is called Yacht Rock. I just discovered it literally a minute ago. Listen to Black Sabbath's Neon Knights, the Yacht Rock version! I guess it's an AI generated song. I also guess Yacht Rock is a 1970's-1980's type of music. Maybe kinda like reggae???? It kinda sounds like it. Get out the bucket, or stay close to the porcelain god!

Dream Theater are only what other bands have done and that is cash in on the popularity of reissues without actually having to do anything.

After Maiden's last album I pray they quit recording. Have had fans tell me it is a good album but it isn't, it is so bad I can't listen to it. Slow, boring, repetitive…

I am amping up for 4 days of ProgPower USA so I have been listening to all the bands that are going to be there. I would love for you to continue this Metal Digest as there is not a lot of outlets for it that I know of. I am mainly into melodic metal of all forms, but especially power metal and progressive metal (clean singing), just for an example of my tastes. Also a huge Maiden fan and seeing them in November.

The elite don't want us listening to metal, metal tells us the truth of history and the way of the world, whereas they'd rather invest in pop shite that they can brainwash the masses with

Love the Metal Digest format! Please keep it up. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the upcoming Opeth album as well as Dark Tranquility’s latest release.

In terms of metal reunions, my personal wish would be to see Jason Newsted perform with Metallica again. His energy and back up vocals are still missed to this day. No disrespect to Rob of course.

Seeing Maiden and W.A.S.P in November in NYC. I will gladly share my thoughts/footage then.

Keep up the good work MP!
