Been a fan of Theo for nearly a decade now…so proud of this guy, not for the guests or how top tier his interviewing has become, or even for his continued vulnerability especially surrounding sobriety, but for how great his hair has gotten.

My Dad & Uncle played FB at UA. Dad played 61-64 for Coach Bryant. Unc played for Coach Bryant in 79-82. I played FB & BB at Bama 90-94, won a Natty in 92. We ALL believe Saban is the GOAT. But, in our homes, Coach Bryant is a notch above Saban, but again, we all agree Saban is Legendary.

Good stuff. However, in general what's interesting is we constantly hear about Saban's work ethic and motivational philosophies, we almost never hear about any football related substance. It's so weird that when it comes to football or sports, 90% of what we hear about certain people is their motivational angle, but very little about the substance of what made their offense or defense so good, for example. Probably because most viewers like me wouldn't understand it anyway! I mean imagine interviewing film directors or artists. I never wondered about Spielberg's, Scorsese's or Kubrick's motivational philosophies although I'm sure they had them. With those guys we talk about the substance of their work, about the actual films and techniques. With Saban or other sports coaches, it's almost exclusively about abstract motivation, never about the technical substance of what they actually did in terms of plays they created.

One thing I wonder about football, for example. Imagine this: Each play is only 4-6 seconds long! Think about all the moving parts in those short seconds. How would you coach something like this? I guess that's why coaches are famous for their clickers where they can go back and forth in those 4-6 seconds and look at each player. Think about the detail and grind involved in order to do that. Secondly play design. He probably could write multiple books on that alone.

Motivation is about more than winning. It’s about helping people reach their potential and never giving up when life gets hard. As a father in Gaza, I know how much strength it takes to keep going. ❤️
