One with the three usual pac-man titles (arcade, mania, attack) would be an insta buy.
But the current lineup doesn’t seem that appealing, to me, personally.

This is definitely a NES on a chip ROM, but not the actual Nintendo version. This is a dedicated ROM.
@riversarcadereview385
March 17, 2026 at 3:40 pm
just by the display, you can tell it isn't an arcade ROM. The arcade version didn't have a 1-player only ROM. Also Space Invaders was played on a vertical monitor not a horizontal monitor like here. In addition, the sounds of Space Invaders arcade used sound 'samples' and it is possible they couldn't get permission to use the original sounds and had to create their own.

Great video Jon. I have no clue what they were thinking by that firing sound. Reminds me of those pocket arcade's AKA "the qbert one" that has that horrible sound.

Was going to get this but I think I shall go with the pixel pocket pro from my arcade. The sound on this one is just… yikes!

That shooting beep or sound is annoying.

I bought the 'Asteroids' version for $22 US, and I find it disappointing. The screenshots on the packaging look like the Atari 7800 versions of the games – but they're actually the versions from the craptacular original NES-on-a-chip Atari Flashback. The games just don't measure up. The Super Pocket was such a great release; this keychain is quite a flop in comparison.

Space Invaders on the 2600 is my Mom's favorite. It was the only game she cared about back in my 2600 days (though before that we had a pong console and she played that with me sometimes). Just the sound of Space Invaders gives her the warm fuzzies.
But the sound on this one is very wrong. Total deal breaker, for me and for her.
And why do you need two buttons for Atari games? In fact, it might be better to have the d-pad on the right and one button on the left, to better simulate the Atari joystick orientation. If one could have a small Atari style stick that screws into the center of the d-pad, that might be cool too. Although on that kind of game I wouldn't be able to hold the stick the way I did on the Atari (in the crook between thumb and forefinger)
Also, those of us old enough to be nostalgic for Space Invaders tend to have eyes that are going bad, and maybe stiff, arthritic hands, so these small games may not be the best thing for us. At least it's not actual keychain sized, though. 🙂

I can understand changing the visuals to fit the horizontal screen (or maybe just use a vertical screen), but that shouldn't affect the ability to use the same sound f/x. It's 2025, we can do that now. Plus, judging from Blaze's other products, I want nothing other than arcade roms from them. Definite pass.

This is so disappointing to have such a weak version of Space Invaders on this. Was really hoping if they didn’t use the arcade ROM that they’d at least use ANY of the early 80’s console versions. (Even the Sega SG-1000 version was dramatically better than this one.) Oh well. 🤷♂️

So…. I followed the link to the site. I subscribed to GXG insider, yay! Now, going to the Login screen, it does ask for a password. I looked all over, but I can't seem to figure out what I'm missing. Any hints, Jon? Or is this like a Warren Robinette Easter egg? Lol

4-way controller for Space Invaders? The appeal here is in the artwork. Got the marking right, not much else.

Hard pass. How'd they mess this up?
@dennisfereoles768
March 17, 2026 at 3:40 pm
It’ll only take a few minutes for modders to make this rechargeable rather than adding batteries for this little device
@Datan0de
March 17, 2026 at 3:40 pm
I thought that HMT could do no wrong, but you'd have to actively try to mess up Space Invaders this badly! Poor ergonomics, controls included that aren't even used, bulky design for a keychain, no high score saving, and not even close to an authentic experience? This is the best advertisement for the MyArcade Space Invaders I could imagine! 😂 I have an old keychain Space Invaders from 5-10 years ago that looks like an actual arcade cabinet that delivers a more authentic game than this, and it can be hacked to play the other games as well!
That is one thing that bothers me about both this and the MyArcade versions: Why is there only one game? At the very least, it would be trivial to include Space Invaders Part III and Lunar Rescue!
@richchinnici6182

The sound effects are annoyingly high pitched. I would pass on this one.

Painful sound, and oddly shaped and pretty huge for a keyring. It's not a Thumby, that's for sure. 😂

Why anything that small in 2025 requires actual batteries instead of being rechargeable is beyond me

Space Invaders is my all-time favorite. First video game I ever saw, and owned. This is such a deviation from that experience, in size and especially in sound, that I will give this a pass. Very unfortunate.
But!
I appreciate the review. You saved me some money here.
@SciFiDude79
March 17, 2026 at 3:40 pm
It’s a tragedy that they got the game so wrong, because I love the look of the device. Space Invaders has a special place in my heart because it was one of the first games my parents bought for the family Atari 5200. Though, I think I’m the only member of the family who actually liked the game. 😂 I still love Space Invaders, but not this version.

Taito Legengs for PS 2 is dead on arcade.
@SamM-oh2cx
March 17, 2026 at 3:40 pm
These look really uncomfortable to play for any period of time, I can imagine I’d get cramp in the hands quite quickly!
Just really don’t see the point of these! They are quite expensive for what they are / you get! For not too much more you could get a pocket that is more comfortable and more practical in that you can take endless games with you!
I just get the feeling evercade release poorly thought out products for the sake of having something to release rather than have something someone actually wants or would like!
I’d rather them release a decent desktop gamepad / arcade stick for the vs-r than this pointless rubbish like this!
@clumaster
March 17, 2026 at 3:40 pm
When you think about it Technically out of the 4 being offered Space Invaders came out first in 78 with Asteroids following in 79. The game on this reminds me of those Chinese made knock-off version of popular games.
@RAGINxxXxxCAJUN
March 17, 2026 at 3:40 pm
Yuck the sound!!!!!
@KurtWoloch
March 17, 2026 at 3:40 pm
Actually, this looks much like the version you get if you play the Game Boy "Space Invaders" cartridge on a SNES with Super Game Boy… which loads a special, full-screen version instead of playing the Game Boy version. It only seems to have been re-written to downgrade it from SNES to NES, and they removed the "Player-2" display on top and moved the hi score from center to right to make up for that.

I'll stick to playing the Atari ROM on a pocketable emulator thank you very much. Also my ears don't work anymore.
@TVsHasselhoff
March 17, 2026 at 3:40 pm
I'll give it credit for what looks like a bright, legible screen. Other than that, not sure what you're paying for if the ROM isn't correct.

March 17, 2026 at 3:40 pm
The fire sound effect is actually hurting my ears and I suspect the same goes for dogs & Superman 😉 It's a hard pass from me. Hopefully the Burgertime one fares better. Keep up the awesome work Jon!
