We’re not even halfway through 2026 and paleontology is already having its biggest year in decades. Five discoveries just dropped that are rewriting everything we thought we knew about prehistoric life and one of them might be the most insane thing ever found in the fossil record. There’s a new apex predator of the Cretaceous that nobody saw coming.

A dinosaur mystery that’s been argued about for over 165 years just got a plot twist nobody expected. And scientists may have just confirmed the existence of an entire kingdom of life that has been completely erased from Earth no living relatives, no descendants, just gone. These aren’t small updates. These are the kind of discoveries that make scientists rewrite textbooks. The deeper you get into this video, the wilder it gets.

Oh! And I wrote a book, so definitely make sure to grab it—Epic Earth out now!

First it's "shiver your timbers" then it's "no bone zone" and I thought we were catching a crush in my station … wagon.. why so many mixed signals? (Checks notes) Ohh, it says "how to get fossilized" not how to get "lost in her eyes" that's, embarrassing, that's my bad.😅
(I really did come here for fossils, I swear 😂)

3:34 as morbid as it may sound. I would be honored to become a fossil . It’s sounds like an extremely terrifying experience, but the good part is you’ll be in a museum someday and add knowledge to the scientific community. ✨

Keep in mind the whole kingdom classification, at least as shown here makes zero sense phylogenetically. Protists are not some monophyletic group (meaning all of them don't share a common ancestor distinct from plants, animals & fungi) but are in fact paraphyletic with respect to plants, animals + fungi (i.e if you tried to draw a tree including all protists you'll be forced to include all animals, plants & fungi within it to show actual evolutionary relationships).

The Elephant seal Spinosaurus was made as a joke making fun of the controversy over it's possible body plans. The artist who made that design didn't actually believe it looked anything like that.

I’ve been lucky enough to see a spinosaurous fossils put together (shout out Denver museum) and I just love how your research and work gives me so much more depth and honestly imagination around animals and the past.
