I'm glad you exist, and I'm glad I found your Youtube channel. Thanks for making these thought provoking videos.
I may not agree with you on every opinion, but I appreciate your mode of thinking. I also share your sentiment that life is best approached logically and compassionately.
Sometimes I feel "intellectual" types often lack compassion and think empathy is not worthwhile. I think this is a harmful opinion. Logic and empathy are not mutually exclusive. The world can already be harsh. Why contribute to it? It is nice to see someone share my ideas on this.
Anyways, I will continue to be a loyal subscriber. 🙂 I hope to see you continue to make content for a long time.

I was slightly distracted by wondering 'does the Alabama football team really using the term 'crimson tide' to describe themselves.

think about world issues and sad things, but don't let it get to you. you can still be a kid at heart and immature as long as you can be responsible when it matters, don't work too hard and don't be too lazy. have fun and appreciate the things that matter to you. you can look for the bright side without being gullible. if you only look for bad things thats all you will find. 🙂

This.
I like this video.
Seriously, though, I hate how cynicism is cool now. I've even fallen into it myself sometimes, and it kinda makes me miserable. I'm generally an optimistic person, and my more activist-y stances center around "just let these people be happy/content". Honestly, too much cynicism breeds a society of bitchy whiners, IMO. Not only do they hate the state of the world, but they're too defeatist to fix it. That's why realism sits right between optimism and cynicism; it's a combination of seeing the problems and motivation to fix them.

I believe in karma, but I believe that a lot of people get karma wrong. They see it as some sort of cosmic retribution. It's not. When you do good things and put beauty in the world, it doesn't mean that you're not going to suffer, but you will see that goodness spread and grow and you will see it help people and that will bring you comfort and joy in your times of suffering. But when you put negativity into the world, then that's all you ever see. You surround yourself with it so that when you experience suffering there is nothing to comfort you. Lemme sum up. I agree with you.

Ideally you want to make happiness and contentness you default setting , not to say that you cant feel sad or angle but when something happens you feel the feeling then move on, it can be hard not to carry things around with you. I've been working with a group called the kindness offensive we do random acts of kindness (check their yt channel if you like) and that has been really awesome and those days have been some of my happiest

I like to think of myself as a humanist. My moniker for the internet is BethechangeUwant2C (be the change you want to see). I set this as a reminder and a challenge to myself that only I can change my out look and behavior. Hopefully, somedays I post something that rings true for someone else. However, I know I don't always live up to my moniker and sometimes return rudeness with rudeness.
I find it interesting that often by engaging with someone who is openly angry and hostile with kindness and politeness, just tends to tick them off further. I try to follow the biblical principle of giving people 3 chances in a discussion – my first response is my polite but formal argument for why I disagree with someone. The second response if they escalate is to try and focus on the commonalities, then try to agree to disagree, then bless them on their journey. If the person is still engaging me in an angry or aggressive manner, I repeat my blessing for their life journey to find what ever peace they are looking for, then make it clear that I will not engage any further.
For people who just want to try and pull out an angry response, blessing them abundantly on their journey to find their path and place in the world, whatever that may be, tends to really confuse them. If they make nasty comments about what they think I look like or my being brainwashed into some cult thinking, I will thank them effusively for their concern for my well being. Again, this tends to baffle and confuse. I don't know what is sadder – that people don't know how to respond to kindness or that they think being kind is a subterfuge to suck them into some nefarious plot.
Anyway, all of this to say, I love your videos and the topics you pick. Please keep up the good work. I always look forward to your next topic of discussion.
I am truly sorry I cannot offer financial recompense at this time as all cards are maxed out. Peace be with you!

Protip to be happy: don't be a little bitch.
Stuff makes you angry and sad? Cry me a river. Buckle up and move forward. Don't dwell on the negative things. Keep moving.
Everywhere around me and everywhere on the internet I see kids getting riled up and pessimistic about the most insignificant things. Oh booh-booh, you think video games are not catering your audience? Or you're afraid that feminists will take over your gaymz? Wow, that is SO IMPORTANT.
Please.

You're definitely right about having fun–I'm so tired of going to other channels where people think hating everything is cool and that genuine enjoyment is a sign of anti-intellectualism.
What the fuck is the point of life if you can't enjoy it sometimes?

When I hear the words "be happy" I become annoyed. Not angry (I'll get to that later), but it is annoying to me that one must "be happy" to feel good or be content or be kind. That isn't the case. It reminds me of an Andy Griffith Show episode where the town was tired of this married couple fighting all the time so they took steps to stop them… and it made them miserable. Fighting was how they loved. It isn't the norm. It isn't for everyone. But content or good isn't always "happy".
Anger and outrage are my tools. One of the first warning signs that my depression is rearing its ugly head is apathy toward things that would normally set my brain afire if not at the injustice at least for the ensuing debate. I spend very little time being, what most would consider, happy. It isn't a bad life for me. My anger motivates me. It keeps me going. It gets me out of bed and engaging in the things I like and want to do. It makes me content. While it could be argued that it is a vicious lifestyle doomed to give me an early heart attack and perpetual resting bitch face, I have to argue that "happy" isn't who I am and really not who I want to pretend to be. But as you say…das jus me doe.

I believe that I can make the world a better place by helping others. I help people all day at my job. I help animals as well. I have an army of birds that I keep fed and hydrated that in return make it look like I'm a bird overlord (they sit on my balcony in a line). In the end, these small things make me a calmer, nicer person.
Anyone can better the world if they are continuously learning. Learning should not stop after school is done.

Great thesis! I think discussion and civil debate over these topics is really important, too. I don't know if this would be your kind of thing, but might I suggest friendly debates with your subscribers? I feel like you would do a great job handling disagreements in order to reach common ground. 🙂

How would you go about making the world a better place through discourse, when the majority of the world's cynical, angry and angsty people are the people who are close minded and aren't open to discourse in the first place? How would you convince someone to take the "be nice to people" standpoint, when their arguments consist solely of name calling and ad hominem attacks?

I think these are all really important questions to ask. I've been doing a lot of self reflecting about my anger lately. What does it protect? Is it justified? Where does it come from? Why are we afraid of the shadow emotions – those that we see as negative etc. Personally I think that the way to be truly happy and still feel the full range of human emotions, is to be authentic and self reflective. But what is happiness? If we interpret it as a state void of any sadness or negative emotions, I think we're missing so much, I think happiness can contain bits of sadness, depression, joy, love, anger etc etc. We are not one dimensional beings. Good conversation starter!!

I really love your channel. When I think about it it's pretty much the only place where I can listen to a man talk about "deep" topics like this but still feel safe – and that's probably because of your desire to be nice to people. While listening to many other men talk about things like justice and morals and feminism and so on they often have opinions and/or express their opinions in a way that makes me as a queer woman feel uncomfortable or even scared. THANK YOU for this.
