My Response To Being Called A “One Hit Wonder”.

Justin Hawkins Rides Again | September 26, 2025

I often get called a “One Hit Wonder” but I’m not ashamed of my hit song I Believe in a Thing Called Love, I’m very grateful for it.

I knew that song (did not know it was Justin performing) that being said I love Justin just for his youtube channel and knowing he performed this song makes me like him even more. I think he did enough to earn a place in the industry and scene…. When I hear him talking about music and the stuff around music like actual life itself I can only listen and learn because he is engaged with people and has zero ego and lots of charm.

Hi Justin, Thank you for your slightly quirky but very entertaining videos. I'd just like to put in my two-penn'orth, if I may, on your being erroneously called a one-hit wonder. 99% of people and content creators (yes, even Rick Beato, I'm afraid), don't know what a real one-hit wonder is. If anyone cares to refer to the "Guinness Book of Hit Singles," they will discover that the true definition of a one-hit wonder is: "An act that has just one entry into the top 75 of the UK music chart that, spectacularly bags the No.1 spot. Nothing before and nothing after." I realise that the UK chart is specified, but I believe that a hit anywhere in the world is relevant in this context. So many content creators post their lists of top-twenty one-hit wonders in a certain year when, in reality, there wouldn't be that many in a decade!
The top two one-hit wonders on the Guinness list are:
1: The Archies, "Sugar Sugar" 1969 (26 wks on chart / 8 at No. 1)
2: The Kalin Twins, "When" 1958 (18 wks on chart / 5 at No. 1)
Neither of these acts had any other chart entries other than these two songs. So, to summarise, it has to be a number one, and nothing else…..ever!
Sorry for going on, but I felt the need to say this, and I hope it was helpful. 👍

Music moved from a "product based economy to a service based economy." That's a perfect conceptualization of what happened.Or summarization? It's well put 😅

One hit wonder? That's simply ridiculous. That's as insulting as the gimicky comment. Yeah, I heard that & I was shocked & definitely uncalled for. It altered my opinion of a certain someone. My grandmother often said that if people didn't have something nice to say they should say nothing, & I heartily agree.

I remember watching you on MTV when I was in high school and now I'm in my late 30s and still find myself singing your songs from time to time, especially if I want to feel happy. Your songs, videos, and basically your happy, positive vibes still make me want to go back and listen. I'm from the Philippines but I'm now based in the US. Keep rockin' idol!

well…. my first darkness hit in 2004 was "love is only a feeling", then i lost my mind for "growing on me", of course "one way ticket to hell"….. and so on… i think it was maybe 6or7 years ago i discovered "IBIATCL" and The Darkness was already one of my favorite rockband….
