Hello, folks — here’s part two of Favorite Needle Drops in Film! In this video we’re discussing Elliott Smith’s role in shaping the sound and feel of Good Will Hunting (Between the Bars, Say Yes, No Name #3, Angeles, and Miss Misery), how Sufjan Stevens did the same for Call Me By Your Name (Mystery of Love, Futile Devices, and Visions of Gideon), and how Ween were chosen as the beautiful end of The Spongebob Squarepants Movie.

Good video, but I gotta say… I feel like "needle drop" refers to previously-known songs. So songs written specifically for a film, I don't really consider those "needle drops." But hey, like you said, it's a fuzzy term.

Livin' Thing by Electric Light Orchestra playing at the end of Boogie Nights is one I really love, it really resonates with the film's themes of finding and losing familial love even in a dysfunctional and unconventional found family and how love is a precious and fragile thing ("It's a livin' thing, it's a terrible thing to lose. It's a givin' thing, what a terrible thing to lose.")

It's perfect in how it starts playing in the final frames right after we get a glimpse of Dirk Diggler's (Mark Wahlberg) claim to fame, where he then does karate moves to pump himself up, before heading out the door and closing it shut right as the main bars start playing with the text "Written and Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson" appearing.

I wish you would have played the needle drop songs longer. Could really not get a feel for how they made perfect sense. Maybe a Youtube time constraint but it did not allow me to feel or learn as much as I had wished in how they truly are so perfect.

Though there are many one of my personal favorites has always been paint it black at the end of full metal jacket. Phenomenal song choice to end a phenomenal movie.

Trouble leading to If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out from Harold and Maude… from needle drop to diagenic/needle drop. Pitch perfect ending to a fantastic film.

My favourite movie needle drop has always been Kim & Dave's 'Nobody Knows' at the end of Vanishing Point.

My absolute favourite needle drop, however, is actually from a TV show: Radiohead's 'Exit Music (For A Film)' at the end of the Black Mirror episode 'Shut Up & Dance'. One of the very few times a piece of media has left me in tears.

How dare you not include the end song of Transformers (2007) when Optimus prime is giving the end speech and Linkin Parks "What ive done" plays in the background?!

There is two of the BEST needle drops ever in The Bear

    Love Story by Taylor Swift
The context just talks for itself

And the gorgeous Let Down by Radiohead at the end just makes for the perfect finale

The end of All of Us Strangers with the song Power of Love was absolutely perfect and so moving. That was my favorite movie of 2023 and the music was part of that. I think that's my favorite recent needle drop end of a film.
