This was fascinating and quite informative. Complex issues with multiple root causes are a lot more common than most medical discourse lets on. I relate in my own way. For me, it's not skin problems but a messy intersection of CPTSD, IBS, and migraine that all make each other worse. And yeah, my luck with doctors and psychs has not been great. Most of them just aren't prepared to deal with a patient with that many things wrong at once. They learn to treat the typical majority, and I ain't that. I am basically on my own with all of these problems. No psych is any help, and unless you're rich it's mighty hard to get referrals to specialists like gastros or neurologists. They'll schedule it a year out in another city (I don't have a car), then they'll randomly cancel it, or reschedule to a completely impossible time, then ding you with a no-show fee when the person who was gonna give you a ride suddenly can't that day. (I hope that blood wasn't from anything serious!) I hate the "you must give 24 hours notice" thing–what if something happens that day? …Well, you get nothing and they take your money is what, and there's nothing you can do!

Also, I'm gonna second the other commenters. Your dad is pretty cool. He's very fun and engaging to listen to, and he tells a story well.

I once knew a man who used Magic Shaving Powder to deal with a similar undiagnosed skin condition. He managed to live bump free with this method. As you say, though, each will react to a treatment or suggestion in their own biochemical way. Continue, please, to offer truth and honesty in content. It isn't about finding the only answer, an answer born out of someone's ego or desire for "likes". It is about knowing that there are questions to ask and solutions, sometimes very unique, to seek. Clearly, it seems to me that we must become experts on ourselves and allow the experts on the generic human being give their opinion but not necessarily follow their opinion without question and deep reflection.

Everyone in my immediate family suffer from some form if skin issue. Usually eczema. I have 2 conditions, keratosis pilaris (doesn't really affect me its just cosmetic), and cholinergic urticaria which is heat, spice, or stress induced bumps that cause hundreds of localized bumps on my skin. They all feel like a mosquito bite. Its unbearable sometimes. My heartrate increases I'll get them if i get a warm shower i get them, spicy food, hot air, stress all cause it. Thankfully I'm one of the lucky ones where antihistamines actually work in blocking the histomine production so i don't get that many bumps.

LOL I Love your dad’s energy!! 😆😆 I’m praying for his and your healing 🤍

Also! Long term use of Steroids are known to cause more harm than good. Which I believe what your father may be experiencing. Researching into steroid withdrawals. That may be whats happening with him. There are people that have suffered immensely because of it. To the point they had stop the steroids all together. Jada Jones has an amazing story about her experience.

You did really good researching the medication before use. It likely saved you from unnecessary adverse affects. Too often people just take a medication the doctor prescribes because of white coat syndrome. But we have to put more effort in researching these things. I had a doctor once prescribed me antidepressants because I complained about headaches. When she told me not to stop them abruptly, and that if I wanted to stop taking them I had to be weaned off. Red flags 🚩 went off. She didn’t even tell me they were antidepressants. I didn’t tell her I felt anything like depression, and nor did she diagnose me as having such. I pick up the medication from the pharmacy, and looked up the name. Once I figured out what they were I threw them in a drawer, took a Tylenol and planned my de-stress lifestyle. You know all those side effects that be telling you about at the end of every antidepressant medication ads! I was like now uh-uh! Gonna mess my head and mental health up because I complained about a persistent headache? About to have me out here dependent or foaming at the mouth, no. I started stretching and enjoying an intentional lifestyle. Also I had just graduated college, so life was a little stressful because of the unknowns. God solved that with time. And guess what, no more headaches.

White woman here! I developed itching and bumps on my back 10 years ago and no dermatologist, no doctor ever found out why or what would work. I watched Dr. William Davis on how to cure issues from the inside by making probiotic yogurts online. Please try it. It is said that over 60% of people in the world have SIBO in their guts and skin issues are the first sign of it. God Bless!

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever recommended (and/or have you tried) topical salicylic acid (aka BHA)? It could possibly help, it’s over-the-counter and doesn’t seem prone to side effects or irritation. I wish you success in handling your skin conditions – I inherited problem skin from my mom, and it’s only at the age of 61 that I’m experiencing healthy, balanced skin – MOST of the time. Oh, and happy birthday Johnny! ❤

Identifying the food triggers will clear up all skin issues. At the start you may be sad about what you can't eat. If its worth seeing permanent remission from your issues you'll get over it. Medical intervention will never work. Medication chases symptoms. Stop chasing symptoms and deal with the source of the problem.

Man your dad's cadence is so damn satisfying to listen to! Love people being open on things like this. I had really minor eczema as a kid on knees and elbows and even barely visible it made me self conscious!

Great Vid! I may be a white woman from Australia, but guys I had pimples/acne in my teens. Not really bad to the point of scarring on my face but damn, did it scar my confidence and self esteem! So I can totally relate to the emotional impact these conditions can have on you, to the point of, exactly what your beautiful Father said, the horrid 'D' word….Depression!
Im sorry you guys had/have to go through this. I really am. It's more to you, than what it looks like to others. I get it. Im now in my 40's and still get the occasional bump or two here n there, plus some weird new eczema (we here, pronounce it like ekkzmah, I've never heard your American way of saying it. Ekkzeemah…That gave me a little giggle) I get on my fingers occasionally. Oh man! The itch can drive me crazy, cause I try my hardest not to scratch.
Anyway, more importantly, is your Father single by any chance? He's a lovely man and it was so nice to see your relationship so cool and so strong. Im still smiling. Thank you, so much for your awesome vid. I really enjoyed it.
All the very best, to both of you. 🩷

My dad's side of the family all have severe levels of acne. Enough that it's considered a "family curse". Pretty much all my cousins and sister had to get prescription level drugs to combat it. Somehow it skipped me entirely. Kinda weird how genetics works… that or I'm a adopted.

That was disarmingly open and appreciated. For what it’s worth, your skin always looks perfect in the videos. You and your dad are gorgeous, in & out. Happy birthday 😊

Does using some kind of scrubbing work? To get the ingrown hairs loose. Maybe that only helps in that case where it grew out and back in or something. Probably something you already tried but I'm just interested in if that did anything at all

Have you tried filtering shower water? I heard a lot of people get their skin conditions healed from that, and US tap water is especially nasty

I’m sorry that you deal with this. My partner and i both have folliculitis. His was bacterial related while mine is genetic. I was able to tell from your pictures that you have it. This is the best thing for treating folliculitis. I use it all over my body every time i shower. It also helps with acne or other skin related issues.

I was the pizza face of the high school and just like the man here I tried everything. But it never cleared up and I didn't grow out of it. I was still spotty at 30!

Then one day I got a rash on my face so severe I couldn't touch it let alone wash it. Went to the doctor and they gave me some cream which I duly applied. Cleared the rash up after a few days. But not only that my acne also cleared up! Was it the cream? No, because it cleared up where I didn't apply the cream!?!

I then realised it was because I hadn't washed my face in a week. For nearly 20 years I'd washed my face twice a day 'cause – well – wouldjalookitmafaceman!

I've not washed my face since then (eww really?) just rinse it with water – gross I know but pre-soap face was worse!

This worked for me but obviously everyone's different but perhaps one thing you could try even if it's just to eliminate the possibility is to try nothing. Nothing at all, no soap, no shower, no bath, no creams (IANAD), nothing for a week or so. Won't cost you anything (financially wise of course). Probably wait until your next vacation eh?
