It's freeing. I no longer check social media daily, I'm living life. I'll even stop watching this before the halfway point to do something less useless.

Honestly, most people in the irl metal community don't really care enough about the internet to begin with. At least not enough to keep random youtubers and streamers eternally hyped

It's looking like I might have expendable income in a year or so. I might start making videos with no intention of ever making money. I'm thinking car videos edited like ytps so you don't learn how to do anything and autistic deep dives into only bands I like. I will be getting demonetized.

AI slop is an issue, but at the same time I think the availability of AI removes the demand for certain types of content.

If, ten years ago, I was really getting into a subgenre and wanted to know more, I might look up a YouTuber who could give me recommendations – someone who's a real fan and/or has done the hard work to dig out the good stuff.

Now I can just ask AI 'what are the popular songs in the genre', or 'give me a list of bands that sound like x'

As a "metal" content creator in a very small niche, I'd say building my channel WITH my community and actually listening to my audience is what makes the difference. Putting my ego aside and just trying to get better with every video is what motivates me. I'm not following "trends" and I just go with what I'm really passionate about because I know people can tell when it's not genuine. Also, I'm okay with having less views if the video makes my core community happy! I'm far from being perfect haha but it seems to be working well so far

neopunkfm were supposed to be mega stars man

the way they were able to create a sense of real life community in niche online music fandoms was such a fun realm of content to indulge in. them going to a morgan wallen concert to interview people whilst posing as punk rockers was a really cool idea and it created a neat shift in perspective on how different genres can get along.

unfortunately they never expanded on that and followed the trend of annoying redditors through video essay slop of the same "history of x genre", "what happened to x artist" and "fanbase tropes" like with their incel music compasses and stuff like that. all the potential in the world just to become hivemind clones without the chemistry and personality of riley and graydon plus without the genius branding. not that they needed to be like hivemind personality wise but their style of duo fit way better for interviewing weird people at joeyy gigs

and then the funnier more interesting one in the duo got sacked (justice for johnny)

On the flip side, there's channels like Drumeo, Chris Liepe, and The Charismatic Voice who, while not being the same style of content, still are music youtube and help you improve your craft so to speak
