    some of my favorites not included:
    the Björk Fossora christmas tree glass ornament;
    the Nightwish Imaginaerum wine;
    and the just released Scott Walker Bish Bosch World Cup tie-in football jersey

    I have Korn Christmas ornaments and an Orgy thong. But one of my favorite pieces is from (hed) PE. The bassist was turning his used bass strings into bracelets and selling them at their shows.

    Work on merch tables so I've seen quite a lot. HEALTH always spring to mind with their insane range, not limited to actual sex toys. A collegue told me Charli XCX once sold glass smoking pipes and douches. I remember once selling an actual power-bank for a band. And then there's Hot Mulligan just selling actual cartons of milk – for 3 grand.
    My favourite has to be the deathcore band distant. Their designs are insane, usually parodying anime and game iconography. Got a chainsaw man longsleeve from the first time I saw them. They also delve into the weirder side of things: thongs, condoms, their "big doink bundle."

    I had to look twice when I was reading the wikipedia article on the Frankenstrat when it mentioned about Dimebag Darrell being buried in Kiss Kasket with EVH's bumblebee guitar, best rabbithole I ever saw jfc

    Surprised you didn't mention the experimental music band Negativland releasing an album where a limited edition included actual ashes of one of the band members who died before the album's release. I did like their reasoning for it though; "we're taking the concept of owning a part of the artist to literal extremes"

    did anyone else have a sleeper cell moment 4 minutes in when he said "the clock strikes 12, midnight arrives"? instantly thought about that that dude who stitched Dax's joker verse

    The Britpop band Pulp were making band-merch underwear as early as 1995. It made sense, because they had a great song called “Underwear”, and it was a tradition for women in the audience to throw their underwear onto the stage during that song. God, I wish I was around during the nineties, they sounded like such a head trip.

    Edit: Pulp are STILL selling band-merch underwear with lyrics from their latest album from last year! Haven’t seen any thrown onstage though, probably because the fandom has grown up and gained a sense of decorum.

    Kiss made "air guitar strings" which was just an empty plastic bag with a cardboard hangtag. Gene said they made a million of that alone.

    and I thought the "Pet Rock" was the best marketing of all time
