We review Mortal Kombat II (2026)… and we filmed the whole review inside an actual movie theater. We both liked it, and we dig into why some video game movies get it right while others completely miss the mark. We also break down the upcoming wave of video game movies on the horizon and talk Mortal Kombat as a whole: from the arcade days through the 1995 film, Annihilation, the 2021 reboot, and the games themselves. Karl Urban joins the franchise as Johnny Cage. Directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Jeremy Slater, the sequel to 2021’s Mortal Kombat reboot from New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Hit theaters May 8, 2026.
We’re not sure if this could turn into a potential show to review new movies, with the name “Buffer Seat.” Kinda like a more chill Rental Reviews. Let us know in the comments what you think about this basic format.

Speaking of trailers, I went into MK2 as completely in the dark as I could. Any time an ad or picture came up on my phone, TV, or whatever, I'd close my ears or ignore it, etc. Sure enough, I am super glad I didn't see any spoilers in the trailers. I mean, damn, there's even some deaths in the trailers.
I would do this for any IP's that I was a big fan of – I used to do it for Star Wars movies, but not any more. I'm fatigued out with SW.

i thought it sucked. i would have rather watched the first one from the 90s or the first one of this. but its still better than mortal kombat annihilation

It was surprising to see them in the theaters gotta say. And I like seeing Justin commited to not subscribe to anything except movie theaters!!! In my case It's YouTube and Netflix only because my oartner loves all those Korean dramas. But anyways, MK2 was a ton of fun, they did the best they could with the material and even put one of my favorite mk endings to be canon, with involves Kitana…

I was thinking the release of this movie would be a cool opportunity to invite 3 of my best friends from the 90s to, since we swore we'd go see the second mortal Kombat movie together, but never got the chance back then.
Sure would be great to go back to that time. Or at least get the gang together again to finish the quest together.

The movie had such horrible flow/pacing, it was like they did a first draft storyboard with all the main story beats and said yep we are done without coming up with how you would transition from scene to scene. The choreography was pretty bad too, especially Johnny vs Kitana. Kitana would start her block reactions well before Johnny started his attack. Johnny Cage's full arc was all of like 4 out of his 6 scenes but at the end they play it off like it was such an epic story line about how he really found himself. I like the movie better than 2021 just because it's more true to the franchise and what we have here is cool, but it is still an unfinished movie with so many glaring issues.

Resident Evil and the odyssey are gonna suck. The new resident evil movie has nothing to do with the games. It was just going to be Zack's next movie but the studio forced the Resident Evil name on it. I don't really believe anything Zack has to say about it. And the odyssey is going to be pile of woke crap. The casting for Helen and Achilles should be a HUGE red flag to anybody with more than two brain cells. Christopher Noland didn't base the film off the original story either. He is basing his film off a more recent propaganda/agenda driven version translated by a hardcore feminist.
