Passing thought: I wonder what those original people chose to name the great body of salty water that divides the two halves of Turtle Island? What did they call the mighty rivers that divided this land from North to South? What about the World spanning oceans on either coast of this wonderful land? What did they call call them? Those mountains, over there, in the West, the smaller ones in the East, the flat lands between, did they have a name? What was the name of the lands where The People came from? Who was that globe of bright light, passing overhead that made Day, every day? What of that cooler light that came sometimes and went sometimes and made the months? Names and names, changing and being forgotten, where is Turtle Island now? New names for ancient things have come, again, made by the new people who need to know where they are in the World, those names too will be eaten by that monster Time and, perhaps, there will be new, new names or, perhaps, the wild things will only call it "Here" and "Now", as they pass through the pieces of today, turned to rubble. When I name a thing, does that make it real, does that make it alive? When I forget something's name, does that change it? When I die, will the land I walked upon remember me? What did it name me? Just a thought.
