I appreciate that Emily is anti-Trump but she’s so absorbed in online conservative theory and discourse she comes off like she doesn’t live on planet earth. She becomes totally obtuse and nonsensical at the slightest pushback.

Claims immigration is very important to her worldview but then pretends like racism on the right is somehow a NEW phenomenon among “young conservatives.” To believe that you would have to be blind and deaf, and stupid, and born yesterday.

“They were in favor of welcoming Liz Cheney”

    “… And?”

“Well, they are neocons and they like Liz Cheney.”

Lazy populist brainrot. In horseshoeland you can make people gasp and nod by just invoking certain names. I’m glad you were there to push her on this surface level analysis of the “corrupt party duopoly” that populists just get to invoke to scare their credulous followers.

Id love to hear JJ go in more detail about the history of his opinion on immigration. In the past I’ve been frustrated by his comments, as they seemed to hide behind what he claimed most Canadians want, without explaining what he wants, or why he thinks immigration is/was bad for Canada.

Does JJ have any interviews with Pisco? I was very surprised to see JJ and him on the same panel feel like they have very different approaches to politics. I like JJ's approach to politics, I've only seen Pisco as this odd political debate enthusiast.

Message to JJ: Your pals at The Bulwark have exactly one political principle, Never Trump. Anything which contradicts that, including everything they advocated for decades, they have thrown overboard. They simply hate Trump, nothing more.

It was incredibly gratifying to watch the guys grill Emily on abortion and sex ed. Her hilariously ignorant view on sex ed and access to contraceptives is unfortunately not just a DC elite problem. For basically any conservatives living outside of the South (I live in the midwest and interact with midwest conservatives), there is a failure to understand just how bad it is there. They are not "pro life" in the South, they are anti abortion and anti sex. The South is the ultimate conclusion to pro life politics in the US, similar to how the guys were saying that what we're seeing with christian nationalism and ICE is the ultimate conclusion to anti immigration.

@1:09:20 the neo-nazi bullshit, support for Israel, etc, does push them to the left. This guy is just excusing himself for being a PoS, and contributing to polarization.

I am absolutely anti-woke, and I understand that guys like this are evil. But right now I have to vote against Trump, because Trump and his jackboots are so much worse. That that's just the moment we are in.

You can draw a line from Emily, Tucker, bulwark, groyper, DSA/dems and their agreement on several policies. They all talk and portray their points differently from extreme to soft pedaling, they all support a version of collectivist socialist government, and constantly try to discredit the small government and return to constitutional government. This conversation is why they do it. It keeps the small government people drowned out. JJ you’re smart and I know you could tell she flip flops like a fish which to me shows she’s dishonest. For me I won’t side with anyone that has any extreme idea nor agree or overlap with groups I highly disagree with. I have ZERO IN COMMON with DSA/the groypers/or anyone that agrees with any of their ideas. Thomas Sowell is the best version of conservative values

Kind of hard to pinpoint Emily politically since her positions are just incoherent populist resentments, but it just dawned on me that she most closely resembles JD Vance’s views circa 2020ish (before he went Maga) or maybe the people who call themselves “post-liberals”

1:51:52 I was very similar to Emily. Grew up Evangelical, didn't like Trump but voted for him, and my highest political priority was being pro-life. I marched for life in DC! My girlfriend (now wife) looked at wedding rings after the march!

Folks, if you're pro-life, you're a hypocrite if you don't vote for Democrats for state and federal office. Just flat-out. If you believe every abortion is murder, far less of these "murders" happen under Democratic leadership BECAUSE access to healthcare, education, welfare, and a stable economy lower rates of unwanted pregnancy. Republican policies CREATE unwanted pregnancies. If you value the life of a fetus, the Republican party is antagonistic to your values.

And it's not just here! Democrats also reduce rates of abortions worldwide due to funding of aid programs. Guess which party likes to make cuts to those… Trump, Elon, and DOGE cutting USAID will cause spontaneous or medical abortions to skyrocket. Wars and famines, be they in Gaza, Iran, or formerly in Iraq and Afghanistan, have caused reduced access to contraception and basic healthcare. The sheer stress of warfare always induces higher rates of miscarriage.

There are reasons I'm now pro-choice, but I won't get into that. The point is that my ignorance of the data, and there's a ton of it, was what made me check the box for Republicans every time. I was subjected to propaganda around an emotionally charged topic that made me actively antagonistic toward trying to find nuance. After all, there couldn't be nuance to murder or genocide.

Like Emily was saying earlier about labels, I think labelling me a radical (which I now think I was) made it more difficult for me to change my mind. I do not believe every pro-life person hates women or wants to control bodies. But the effect of pro-life policies harms women, controls their bodies, AND harms their pregnancies and the circumstances surrounding them.

I would consider myself more MAGA than conservative, but certainly along conservative values. The few times I have listened to Emily I considered her views similar to mine and was shocked to hear that she is anti MAGA and considers us a cult……..

$10000 per person to self deport is a bargain, if said person, is partaking of the welfare state, in base form it's a math equation of $ in vs $ out.

Sounds like a lot of jumping to conclusions based on less than 100% knowledge. A lot of polarization happening, including both sides no longer caring what the other thinks of them. Weaponizing the view of others for power made this inevitable.

Emily was even more annoying then maga. I don't see any coherent ideology going on in her head at all. How can your whole political ideology orbit around abortion and immigration. The two basic moralistic hot button issues that don't effect daily life like most everything else in politics. Pathetic
