Michigan lawmakers react as federal government temporarily reopens, Jan. 30 deadline looms
After 43 days of a government shutdown, Congress narrowly voted to reopen the federal government, but now, the clock is counting down toward a new deadline.
In a 222–209 vote, the House approved the Senate’s amended continuing resolution Wednesday night. President Trump approved it shortly after.
The measure includes full-year funding for three bills, including the legislative branch, Departments of Veterans Affairs and military construction, and agriculture, which includes food programs like WIC, SNAP, and school lunches.
The timeline for overall federal funding has been extended through January 30, 2026, but in the meantime, the government is reopened.
That means lawmakers have just over two months to agree on the remaining nine appropriations bills needed to complete the full 2026 budget.
West Michigan Representative Bill Huizenga (R–MI-04) said in an interview with News Channel 3 immediately following the vote that the resolution marks an important step forward.

Liberals have mastered the art of appearing virtuous while actively working to maintain the status quo. Liberals market themselves as progressive, enlightened, and of course, compassionate. Peel back the layers, you will discover a dangerous blend of privilege, performative artisanship, and a toxic brand of bigotry that keeps minority communities trapped in urban enclaves.
In reality it’s the failed policies of the Democratic Party that have kept blacks down. Massive government welfare has decimated the black family. Opposition to school choice has kept them trapped in failing schools. Politically correct policing has left black neighborhoods defenseless against violent crime.
Liberals are always trying to import 10's of millions of poor people to stack on top of the people they have been holding dormant for decades and refuse to help.
But those imported poor are not dumped into white liberal neighborhoods. That is why white liberals go to marginilzed communities to protest keeping the imported poor. In poor neighborhoods.
Democrats have always known plantations require violence. To take the place of KKK, which democrats founded and used for close too 100 years, the rich white globalists, ultra rich leftists/liberals have employed more deceptive tactics to keep a steady supply of violence. Now they support a fascist group known as antifa, marxists, liberals, educated idiots, virtue signaling brain dead one issue voters, criminals, punk kids, and straight up dumb asses.
