Michael Che | An Amateur Therapy Session | Mike Birbiglia’s Working It Out
Mike started this podcast so that one day Michael Che would come on. Today is that day. In this all-timer episode, Mike and Che work out tons of jokes and discuss the advice Lorne Michaels gave to Che that he’ll never forget, how Che went from designing and selling t-shirts on the street to being a stand-up comic, and what keeps him coming back to SNL. Plus, the time Che nearly did something to Colin Jost on air that he would really regret.

Enjoyed this podcast with Michael Che. We don’t see him much outside of Update and really liked hearing his story and views. I agree with his take on Eddie Murphy. There are several hosts that do really well on SNL but Eddie’s work as an original cast member at 19 was superb and really did save the show AND when he returned in 2019 he appeared to seamlessly fit right into sketch comedy again. He is number 1 among many other extremely talented SNL performers. Absolutely agree with him on the issue of the misconception of people getting assistance.

I’m loving this norm segment. A few weeks before norm died, Che was doing an ig live, just effing off, and listing his top 20 stand ups, he ignored all calls for Seinfeld but I typed “norm?” and he saw it, and he said “oh norm’s the goat”. It’s one of my favorite memories in my increasingly online only life

Both are quite endearing but I always find it odd when multimillionaires say they wish they could be on a beach in Greece. You can. If you don't live extravagantly, you could be on a beach the rest of your life without ever working again.

He says he’s quitting every week and the good old idiots over at /r/LiveFromNewYork and /r/saturdaynightlive eat it the fuck up every single god damn time lol.
It’s next level parasocial over there.

Truth, Michael. Most car accidents happen within 5 miles of home. Watch out for that extra 5 minutes!
You keep America sane🤣

I actually like Michael Che… I go see his shows and he is one of the ones i feel has held on to his stand up and did not give it up when he took on the SNL job. Great interview.

It's not a hard number of days drinking, if you have to bring the math into it , it's probably too much, lol. This is coming from someone who is coming up on two years sober in a couple weeks.

So glad Che admitted to his segment being weak, because it was. But this just highlights this thing that hosts do where they just praise everything. Its what makes late night talk shows the worst because there is just no opinion. Everything is the best, the funniest, etc.

An intervention is like having all your loved ones, gather around a table and giving notes on the script that your life has been writing.
P.s. Che is counting the maximum drinks allowed the same way trump counts all of his numbers…"I can do 4 Maybe ,5,6, 7 drinks"

Great interview🎉
I think your Santa/ Jesus joke doesn't work because for anyone that likes history, celebration of what we currently call "Christmas" has been going on so much longer than Christianity, it fails. Just because Santa is a new construct, it still just doesn't work in my brain; I just want to argue facts, which is dumb on my part, but also runs the joke.

After the insanely racist "Kam is a stupid, violent black child" Weekly Update "sketch" I just had pop into my feed, Che should really think harder about quitting this time around. Holy fuck that was so horrific I'm making a comment on the other random Che video YT put in my feed.
