Although I'm not indigenous, I am trans, and the support for trans people in this video made my day. My mental health has been really impacted by all the anti-trans legislation in the U.S. as well as the transphobia. Thank you so much. 💛

Thank you for your wise words. I see this backlash very much the consequence of class war, the Great Recession and widening wealth gap that got worse during the pandemic. I wish there were an authentic opposition party that would address the economic distress and precarity that the populace is enduring. if that were to happen I believe it would go far to alleviate the stress the country is experiencing and that causes working people, to the delight of “the 1%”, to turn on one another. It is also very much a feature of a rapidly declining US empire. yet Americans, especially progressives, are ignorant of the connection between US foreign and domestic policies, the connection between the trillions that have been spent on war and militarism and a country that is falling apart from neglect.

While I thank you for putting out this crucial validation of standing up for LGBT people, I have to call out one very important mistake that far too many on the left are making. It is *not* 'gender affirming' to convince children (or even adults) that their bodies are somehow 'flawed' and that they must be 'fixed' with hormones and surgery to 'correct' them to make them a 'man' or 'woman'. That is not liberating or affirming. It is the opposite. It is confining everyone to be male or female, and pretending that there is nothing *in between* male and female. How is that two-spirit philosophy?

So while you are exactly correct to decry the right wing freakout and extremely dangerous blacklash against gender and reproductive rights, it is very wrongheaded to ignore the one critique that the right is putting forward which is actually legitimate: that there is nothing natural or ok about changing people's bodies with hormones and surgery (especially when they are children, *long* before they can make sensible decisions about such stuff).

This craze for hormones and surgery is seriously ruining the lives of many people who transition and then realize they made a big mistake, and it has to stop – not just because it is wrongheaded, but also because until we get real about this, the right will reject everything we say that is *correct* about gender rights, because we are so foolishly over-doing it with the current transition treatment craze.
