MASTODON scandal, IRON MAIDEN in 2026 🔥 PORTNOY & LARS ULRICH, A7X, OZZY, MANSON & more | MPD49

Metal Pilgrim | February 20, 2026

Birmingham is getting ready for the final Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath concert on July 5th, with the new Ozzy Osbourne exhibition and a bunch of Black Sabbath related installations in the city to honour the Heavy Metal legends. Meanwhile Brent Hinds has some strong words to say about his ex-bandmates at Mastodon, burning all the bridges.

Mike Portnoy shuts all the keyboard warriors by telling who has been one of his biggest inspirations back in the day, and Adrian Smith & Richie Kotzen announce a 2026 live tour… which may tell us about Iron Maiden’s 2026 leg of Run For Your Lives Tour.

Avenged Sevenfold – prophets, and Marilyn Manson is getting cancelled in the UK. Lamb of God and Chris Adler reunion is even less likely than we thought, new releases by Sodom, Igorrr, Forbidden, Pertubator, Baby Metal and much more in the new Metal Digest.

Metal is alive and well, so let’s see what keeps it going today. Here you go!

man, lars is sh1t. do you really think Portnoy saying that will change anything??? the guy is sh1t but back in the day he had power. what is the confusion you are making??? the same way James LaBrie was a good vocalist and now is dragging Dream Theater down the drain.

Just to clarify, MM being canceled in the city of Brighton & Hove wasn't just the whim of a councilor, there was a hugely successful petition. As a man who has been falsely accused and proven innocent (it was littelarry the other way around) I started off feeling bad for Brian Warner, but the number of accusations coupled with the recent documentary I think he is obviously a narcissist (NPD) and I would bet good money on him being guilty.
Just my opinion, based on having experienced narcissistic abuse from parents, partners and friends for 40 years. I can spot them a mile off now

I also don't give a flip about whatever Avenged Sevenfold tried to accomplish with their recent album. I'm just sad that they've abandoned their earlier sounds altogether.

We only give lars so much crap because we know he is all those things youve said. But technically he isnt the best. He has had some questionable performances. I still respect him for his influence on me and others. He isn't undeserving of a little lighthearted ribbing, though.

I love Brent and I love Mastodon… and I love Brent’s work outside of Mastodon… but, let’s be honest here, Brent has a history of being pretty unhinged.

Maiden at London Stadium… absolutely superb. 75k crowd. Simon did a great job. Bruce on very very top form, the 3 stooges imperial on guitars and Steve… what a legend… just brilliance

Maiden were my band in my early teens…….i’d say time to bow out on a high. I’d say the same for Metallica….they are shadows of their former selves. Time to go….which is hard to say as the 1st four albums are my favorites of all time.

Tired of the 2-3 years for one tour. Their side projects are the reason for this I believe but anyway hope I live to hear a new album or to see them in late 2026 or so. What a bummer.
