Marine veteran who intervened during Traverse City Walmart stabbing speaks out
Matthew Kolakowski, U.S. Marine veteran and one of the bystanders who took action during the Traverse City Walmart stabbing on Saturday, will be speaking to media in Grand Rapids Tuesday morning.
Kolakowsi, of Kent County, and his brother-in-law, Chris O’Brien, were on vacation in Traverse City.
Kolakowsi was among several bystanders captured on video confronting stabbing suspect Bradford Gille until Grand Traverse County deputies arrived.
Gille was arraigned Monday in Traverse City on charges of terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder.
Matthew will be available for personal interviews and sharing his first-hand perspective, experience and insight from the recent tragedy.
Gille made several comments and was reminded by his attorney that anything he says can be used against him. The judge muted his microphone on one occasion.
Gille’s probable cause date is August 6.
His preliminary exam is scheduled for August 12.
